ing Journal, published by C. E
Bailey, has reached Hillsboro. Ihe
paper is very small, but tbe pub
lisher promisee lo make it very
lively. Owing to illness in the
family of the editor, the news ser
vice extended to Beaverton pre
cincts only. The paper has no evi

Eugene Dant, the Reed ville
thresher, was in town Monday and
says that his machine has finished
for the year. He states that he
had not yet left the stackyard at
the Witch Hazel ranch when he
ifcovered the stacks afire, and
that he did all that was possible to
Bave the grain. He states that he
also tried to settle with the owner
of the grain, but that they could
not agree upon a settlement. Mr.
Dant has retained S. 11. Huston to
conduct his defense.

Mrs. Asa Williams, one of the
early pioneers of Washington coun
ty, died at Forest Urove, Monday
and was buried in the Hillsboro
cemetery yesterday. Deceased was
a daughter of the late ueo. smith
who at one time owned the dona
Hon land claim under his name
just east of this city. Early in the

eating house in this city, and they
afterward moved to the Greenville
section, where they resided for
many years. Her husband died
last year. Her children are: Mrs
