The cow ordinance, to prevent
cows from running at large, and
the ordinance providing for the
imorovenient of about fifteen miles
of sidewalk, was called up at the
council meeting Tuesday evening,
but was held up for two weeks.
Dr. F. A. Bailey, the mayor, was
absent, and Recorder Banley acted
as the chief executive. No one ap
pears to know just how the council
stands as to the cow ordinance, and
there is much speculation as to
whether or not it hhall pass. In
Corvallis. where the bovine is kept
up the grass has grown so tall that
it caught fire the other day, and. In
Hullrts. where thev aie permitted
to run, one broke into a farmer's
wagon and ate $43 25 cents worth
of croceries one day last week.
