A large audience last evening at
lended the closing exejeises at the
Sisters' School al Cedar Mill and
the program was very successfully
rendered. Archbishop Christie,
the noted Prelate, wai preHent and
delivered a Btirring address to the
pupils and audience. His remark
were eloquent for higher education
of the bouI as well training for
the mental faculties. His address
was patriotic and intensely Amer
ican and was a pleasing effort.
The pupils exhibited a degree of
versatility which epeaks well U t
the training received in the school
and the packed audience remained
until the last number wai complet
ed. The needle and fancy work by
the girl and young pupils wan cer
tainly very beautiful.

less than six or seven applicants
for the position of selling Uncle
Sam.B postage stamps and each ap

the others. J. Wheelock Marsh
still holds tlie fort and he- is not
sorry, perhaps, that there are so
many contestants for the place,
and the warmer the contest, the
longer it will be before the place is
awarded. As there is a very good
salary attached t the position, Mr.
Marsh can "smile" to see the
faithful spar for the favor. No ap
pointment has yet been made in
the matter of the Hillshoro office.

mission are trying to get tax col
lectors appointed through the
recommendation of the various
dubs, so that every wheel will pay
its tax and the money can be ex
pended on the paths. It is the in
tention to see that no wheels evade
the tax, and this is perfectly prop
er. The benefit of good paths
more than repay the $1 25 that
each wheel must pay for its tag.

At the last meeting of the Hills
horo Band a unanimous vote of
thanks was voted to J. M. Brown
for bis work in measuring the boys
for their new uniforms; the boys
say the fits are simply perfect,

iform had to le remodeled. This
speaks well for J. M. Brown and
