Plata were GleJ Monday at the land
office by the O. R. & S. for SO miles
of light ot way along the middle fork
ot the Clearwater from Kamiah, says
the Lewistoo Tribune. This right ot
way was purchased some months ago
by the company at a time when the big
railroad tight began. Fur many years
it was considered that the middle fork
of the Clearwater provided the only
approach to the pass through the Bitter
Roota, and when the Northern Pacific
declared its intention ot building the
Butte cat-off. it is said the O. R. X.
hastened to appropriate the right ot
way along the middle fork. Another
explanation ot this move on the part ot
the Oregon company is tnat the Tur
lington line has intentions ot soon ex
tending its lines aeet from Billings,
Mont., and that the O. R. & N. has se
cured the right of way leading into the

with the possession until the fjrther
development ot that leuion justifies the
construction of a road there.

P. Mrlntoch, of Tillamook, who
manufactures more cheese than other
any man in the Northwest, speaking of
the outlook in Tillamook county for a
targe prutluutlon of oheese, says: "The
spring and summer this yea were not
especially good, as the rains continued
so late and the weather so cold that the
grass was not given a chance to grow.
August rains have had the opposite
efiect, and the fall pioimses 11. The
fall grass bad already attained a good
growth at the time that is usually the
driest ot the year, and it shows in the
increased production ol milk. Every
thing points to the probability ot a
good fall. Prices will be good or even
better than in some time past, as there
is a shortage in Eastern states, and the
cheese imported will come at a high
figure. It now looks as though there
will be a good advauce between nor
