STARTLING DISCOVERY.
Our mammoth frien J, the Oregon -ian,
has suddenly discovered that
W. J. Bryan has said a few things
with which il can agree. This, in
deed, i k hopeiul ain. and an evi
dence that metropolitan journalism
can. at least once in a decade, agree
willi some one who elands in op
position to commercialism as it
now operates in politics. The facts
In, the trust led party, under Me
Kinley, will find in 1900, many
who will rote against its policies,
and this is so painfully patent with
the Oregoniau that it must occas
ionally look conditions in the face.
THE OLD CHESTNUT.
The old threadbare trick of the
Hanna press quoting its allies in
journalism as against Bryanites is
again being practiced by such pa
pers at the New York Tribune and
the Oregouian.- They quote the
Chicago Chronicle and the Courier
Journel as "democratic," and think
by such Fobteffuge to influence the
real democracy of the Country.
The Chionicle and Courier Journal
ardently supported McKinley and
doubtless received big pay -for so
doing. The intelligence of the dem
ocratic adherents knows this and as
the Hannaites expect to vote the
easily influenced, it would get those
who would believe such nonsense,
anyway.

WHO 18 THE JEW LIVES NOW.
A correspondent in yesterdajr'-Ore-gnnian
writes a lngtly letter, set
ting forth the few. Hi gos on to
explode many poplar fall aci. s, and
hits the n lil on the head in much
that he Bays. He holds for the Jew,
a great respect, and one that is con
curred in by the "ra' ble." He
might have gone further than he
did, and told us, that although the
Jew has no country he can call his
own; no flag he can call his own;
yet, he controls all countries and
all flags. He puts England to war,
right or wrong, when he wishes;
ditto the continental powers of Eu
rope; ditto, America. Here is
where commercialism yields the
palm. The Jew is at the head of
all great credit enterprises and he
controls the commerce of the world.
To secure the greatest success -in
these lines, he must control legis
lation ; and he does it. H a t s off
to hla sagacity! We enlist our sons
td fight his national battles; his ex

never a debased money man, but is
always a debated product son-of a
gun and yet, never a producer in
