this week will be in charge of the
ladies of circles A and B. Reserva

The young; women's Bible class
will hold a cafeteria dinner and cos
tume party at the home of Mrs.
Boudinot Seeley, 740 Patton road,
on Friday evening. The class be
gins its year's work this morning
with a study In the life and letters
of St. Paul.
The Portland Heights circles of
the First Presbyterian church will
hold an all-day meeting with Mrs.
J. R, Westervelt. 654 Ravensview
drive. Tuesday. Circle K on Wil
lamette heights will meet at the
home of the leader, Mrs. J. W.
Fowler, at S:30 on Wednesday. Mrs.
Henry Wessinger will entertain the
ladies of circle F Tuesday at her
home, 71 North Sixteenth street.
Mrs. Tomlinson will entertain cir
cles G and H Tuesday at t V. M.
Circles J and W will meet with Mrs.

Mrs. J. Mann Fisher will entertain
circle P at her home, on the corner
of Prescott street and Richardson
road, at 2:30 Tuesday. Circle S will
meet with Mrs. F. E. Buswell, 1122
Kast Davis street, at 2 P. M. on
Tuesday.
This will be Rally day at Piedmont
Presbyterian Sunday school. Classes
will be advanced from - grade to
grade. Appropriate exercises and
music have been prepared.
All pupils are requested to be
present and a cordial invitation of
fered to parents and friends to as
sist by their presence in making
this rally day one long to be re
membered In the minds of the chil
dren. The hour for assembling is

Dr. Doney Will Speak at
Methodist Church Today.

DR. CARL G. DOXEY, president
of Willamette university, will
be the speaker at the First Meth
odist church this morning. Dr.
Parker will preach at night on the
theme, "The House of Rimmon."
The Quartet and choir will sing at
both services and In the evening
there will be a special number by
Miss Ruth Linrud, soloist and harp
ist. Rally day at the Sunday school
last Sunday was a decided success.
The attendance of the school wls
433 m 25 per cent gain over rally
day of last year. All departments of
the Sunday school are working hard
to make this the best season First
church has had. The templar class
for young men has recently been, re
organized. The officers elected for
the coming season are: John Rudd
of the Oregon and Idaho Y. M. C. A.,
president; R. E. Fooshee, vice-president;
D. A. Qoodridge, secretary;
A. D. Millard, treasurer; Tom Rodda,
membership chairman; Paul Flegel,
social chairman. The class has set
up a goal for doubling of its mem
bership before January 1. Dr. Ed
ward Laird Mills, editor of the Pa
cific Christian Advocate, and C. H.
White of the Ellison White Lyceum
bureau are the teachers. - The class
meets at 9:45 A. M. and invites all
young men of the city who are not
now attending Sunday school to Join
them.
The boys' chorus, made up of boys
of the Methodist Episcopal Sunday
school, has been organized and is
being directed by E. S. Miller. All
boys from 8 to 18 years of age who
are members of the Sunday school
or church are eligible. A rehearsal
will be held at the church Saturday
afternoon at 1 o'clock.
Wednesday at 2 P. M. the Wom
an's Foreign Missionary society will
meet In the Sunday school temple.
An interesting programme has been
prepared. Mrs. J. F. Kinder will pre
sent the new study book, "Building
With India"; Mrs. T. T. Fett will
conduct the round table. Mrs. C. H.
White will discuss "Our Missionary"
and Mrs. A. W. Fisher "Our Maga
zine." Mrs. Amedee M. -Smith will
sing. Mrs. T. S. McDaniel, Mrs.
Emma Witter, Mrs. C E. Crookham
and Miss Ruby Merwin will act as
hostesses.
A moving picture entertainment
will be given in the Oxford pariors
of the church Wednesday evening at
7:30. "The Power Within" is a heart
drama, illustrating 4he power of
faith In God.
Friday evening, at 6:30, there will
be a banquet and setting-up confer
church parlors. Every department
of the church will be well represent
ed. Tickets should be secured early.

At the last session of the western
Norwegian-Danish Methodist confer-;
ence the Rev. F. A. Scarvlc was re
turned to serve the First Norwegian-Danish
church for another year
and was also appointed district su
perintendent of the Portland district
of the church. Rev. Scarvic will
preach his first sermon in the new
conference year and his subject will
be "The Beautiful Crown of Old
Age." In the evening he will dis
cuss "God's Call to a Beautiful Life.";
The Sunday school, which was laid'
down during vacation, will resume
its work at 10 A. M., with Fred
Holm as superintendent. The Young
People's society meets Wednesday
evening.
The service at Centenary Wilbur
will be of more than usual Interest.
In the morning Dr. Greene will
speak on "The Great Refusal and
the Modern Disaster." In the eve
ning the new pipe organ will be
dedicated with appropriate cere
mony 'and J. A. Bamford will epea-k
on "The Pipe Organ Jn Worship."

At the Rose City Park Methodist
Episcopal church Dr. C. W. Huett,
the pastor, will speak both morning
and evening, taking as a theme in
the morning "Obedience to the
Heavenly Vision" and in the eve
ning "Christ's Mission."

Rev. C. B. Harrison of Epworth
M. E. church. Twenty-sixth and Sa
vier streets, will preach this evening
on, "The Most Important Factor In
One's Religious Development."

At 11 A. M. today Rev. J. B. Harris,
pastor of the First Methodist Epis
copal church South, will take for his
theme "The Sine Qua Non of Chris
tianity" and at 8 P. M. the theme
will be "When Leaders Lead."
Kansas City Man TalEs at
. Nazarene Church.
Dr. J. B. Chapman Scheduled to
Preach Tonight.
REV. J. B- CHAPMAN, D. D, of
Kansas City, Mo., said to be
one of the ablest pulpiteers in
the Nazarene denomination, will
preach at the First church, corner
of Twelfth and Main streets, to
night. Dr. Chapman has been prom
inent In the educational affairs of
his church and recently has become
chief editor of its general official
organ. Rev. J. T. Little, a former
pastor of First church, also will
participate in the service. The
music for the occasion will be fur
nished by the Nampa college quar
tet, conposed of students of the
Eastern Nazarene college, Nampa,
Idaho.
This will be Dr. Chapman's flr;
trip to the Pacific northwest. The
service Is for the general public.

copal church the entire day will be
devoted to the Sunday school Inter
ests. Rev. F. M. Jasper, the recently
appointed conference superintendent
of Sunday schools for Oregon, will
conduct three services at 11 A. M.
and 2:30 and 7:80 P. M Basket
luncheon will be served at noon. An
address, with slides and motion pic
tures, magnifying Sunday school
work, will be given In the evening.
The new pastor, J. Edgar Purdy,
will preach at both services of the
Sellwood Methodist church. In the
morning his theme will be "The
Church and the Times" and In the
evening "The Saving Name." Special
music will be given by the choir at
both services. On next Friday eve
ning a. membership dinner will be
served In the social rooms of the
church, followed by a rally In the
main auditorium. The rally will be
addressed by Dr. Charles McCaugbay
of Centenary-Wilbur church.
Quarterly communion service and
the administration of the Lord's
supper will be observed at the
Waverley Heights Congregational
church, corner of East Thirty-third
street and Woodward avenue, the
pastor. Rev. Oliver Perry Avery, of
ficiating at 11 A. M. The subject
cf the sermon is "The Greatest Com
mandment." The chorus choir of
young people will sing at the eve
ning service and there will be A gos
pel sermon by the pastor.

Next Sunday will be rally Sunday
for church and Sunday school. Pro
motions from the primary will be
given and new class arrangements
made. One item of especial interest
Is the presentation of the new
Gothic windows for the auditorium
by the Sunday school to the church.
By Its own effort the school pro
vided the money for the simple but
beautiful windows which are but
one of the many Improvements of
the property and equipment of the
church.
