- leadership of Mrs. J. F. Mclndoe,
president of the woman's auxiliary
of St. Mark's church. These wo
men are, making preparations to
entertain the deaconesses of the
church, who, come to. Portland. This
will, be the first general conven
tion at which these church work
ers will be entertained. St. Mark's
parish house, . the . second floor of
which Is already equipped with
comfortable apartments, is being
fitted over for' them. The large
parish room will be furnished as a
living room; where th9 deacon
esses will be provided with ample
accomodations , for., meeting . their
friends, and the upper rooms will
be furnished as bedrooms.
September 14 has been set aside
as Deaconess day, when corporate
communion will be celebrated at
7:30 A. M. in St. Mark's church, fol
lowed at 9:30 A. M. with breakfast
' ,th? paris1 house.. The afternoon
will be devoted to a conference. On
one evening during the convention
an official reception will be given
to the visiting deaconesses. The
exact date of this event has not
been announced.

The motor corps committee, under
the leadership of Mrs. Walter E
Bliss, chairman, has practically
completed all arrangements for the
highway and sightseeing trips,
which are to be given to all vis
itors. A two-hour trip through the cltr
and surrounding territory, 31 miles
in length, has been mapped out by
the committee. The city trips will
be made dally except Saturday and
Sunday at 1 and 3:30 P. M., begin
ning September 4, and will leave
from the auditorium. The Colum
bia river highway trips will be
made daily, except Sunday, begin
ning September 2, and will leave
from the Multnomah hotel. The
only thing the committee lacks no

a group of visitors over the city
or - along tho highway are re

The city sightseeing trip will
start from the auditorium and will
cover the following route: West on
Market street, to Park, to Montgom
ery, to Fourteenth, to Yamhill, to
Nineteenth, to Everett, to Twen
tieth, to Lovejoy, to Cornell road,
to Westover road, to Albemarle ter
