cial.) Dozens of children in myriad
colored bathing suits dot the beach
each day at the bathing hour, and
shovels and pails of all sizes and
capacities strewn over the sand
mark the temporary sites for mul
titudinous sand castles find tunnels.
Rockaway beach Indeed seems to be
running in close rivalry to London's
Kensington gardens. "Bear," a jolly
black dog with a friendly sniff of
welcome for every child on the
beach, seems to be exerting himself
to understudy Peter Pan, and is at-
' trading a great deal of attention
by his evident love of surf bathing
and breaker chasing.
Small Doris Robinson, 16-months-
old daughter of the C. A. Robinsons
of Salem, is the youngest surf bath
er on the beach, and Richard Steier,
Buddy Greer and Laurelmae Jack,
diminutive 4-year-olds of Portland,
may also be seen every day jump
ing the breakers. The older children
are enjoying brisk gallops up and
down the beach on ponies, followed
by a string of excited dogs. All
ages and sizes of youngsters were
rapturous over the dog and pony
show on Tuesday.
Mr. and 'Mrs. Gord.on Stuart of
Vancouver, Wash., are passing a
fortnight at the Ocean Crest apart
ments. Mrs. C. G. Brownell, accompanied
' by her father, is enjoying a vaca
tion at the Ocean Crest apartments.
