The people of Pennsylvania, Meade's native state, have contributed $200,000 toward its cost. ,.. . Miss Catherine Genin Burke of Chicago recently passed with high honors at Columbia university, when she was given the degree of bachelor of arts. She is totally blind. She also was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa. . Jean Allis Davis, cabinet baby, is the tiny little daughter of Secre tary of Labor and Mrs. Davis. The father frankly admits the baby is the cutest he has ever seen and the mother is not given to gainsaying it. Mother and baby have gone to Mooseheart, III., for the summer. ' Miss Jean Tolley appeared at the Venetian water carnival of the Authors' league in Madison Square Garden, New York, last week in a fetching bathing suit. It was declared to be the latest creation of the sort. One of the most beautiful spots in Washington, D. C, is the plot 'upon which are to be seen a rare collection of roses. It is on the grounds of the department of agriculture and is 1500 feet long. How would yon like to have the job of handling typhoid fever germs? There is a man in Washington, D. C, who does it for the health service. He is rendering a great service to mankind and seems to like it. there is a heavier man in the world than Sam Harris of Farmers ville, Tex.,, he hasn't registered yet. He weighs 661 pounds. He is 6 feet 2J inches tall, measures 48 inches around the thigh , and 24 inches around the calf. His wife and children are of normal weight.
