The tea table was pre sided over by Mrs. William D. Wheelwright Mrs. Helen Ladd Cor bett, Mrs. Holt C. Wilson and Mrs. Lucius Allen Lewis. " Mr. and Mrs. Theodore B. Wilcox Jr. will spend two months abroad. - They departed last week-end on the White Star liner Homeric. Announcing engagements from Europe in cablegrams seem to be the latest idea in vogue among the society folk of Portland. . Last week the news of the en i gagement of Miss Jean Meier, eld est daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius L. Meier, to Daryl Klein was con tained in a cablegram. . Miss Meier, who has been travel ing abroad with her family, re cently arrived in Paris, after travel ing in Japan, China and England. She is a great social favorite in Portland, as well as in New York. Miss Meier attended Miss Catlin's school in Portland and later 'was graduated! from Mrs. Merril's school at Marmaroneck, New York. . Mr. Klein is in the exporting and importing business, with headquar ters at Kobe, Japan. He is known also as an author of several books. Mr. Klein and Miss Meier first be came interested in each other through their mutual love of litera ture. No definite plans have been made lor the wedding. Mrs. Robert Noble was the inspiration for a charmingly ap pointed tea on Friday afternoon at which Mrs. Phillip Buehner and Mrs. Charles Thornton Ladd were hostesses at Mrs. Buehner's home on Hawthorne avenue. Pre siding at the tea table were Mrs. William M. Ladd, Mrs. John For . rest Dickson, Mrs. Elliott R. ' Cor bett, Mrs. Wells Gilbert, Mrs. Don ald Munro and Mrs. Carl Wernicke. Miss Jane Talbot and Miss Anna Warren assisted about the dining room. Mrs. John S. Parke entertained on Thursday afternoon at an informal tea. Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Sharp were hosts Thursday evening at a dinner honoring their house guests, Mrs. Edward A. Howard and Miss Jane Howard of San Francisco. Mr, and Mrs. Sharp and their guests will pass the .week end at Seaside. Mrs. Charles T. Whitney was hostess Thursday afternoon at a luncheon at the Waverley Country club' honoring her sisters, the Misses Matilda and Mary Barron and several other California visitors, Mrs. Joseph K. Clark of Los Angeles, who is visiting Mrs. A. E. Rockey, Mrs. Jane Howard, Mrs.. Harry Sharp's guest. Miss Dorothy Sanford has chosen July 9 as the date of her wedding to Leonard Dale Wilson of eastern Oregon. The marriage will take place at the home of Miss Sanford's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L C.
