From the backwoods cabins of our forefathers, to your home and
my home today, Benevolence the milk of Human Kindness has
sung down through the centuries its message of Comfort, Good Cheer
and the Open Poor of Neighborliness.
Consideration for Others Sings for All
Just as it sang for Abraham Lincoln's soul, and the soul of every
patriot who fought for a great principle just as it has through the
ages always sung for Brotherly Love and the beneficiaries thereof
so today it sings for all in Portland who rejoice in the possession and
exercise of the Benevolent Spirit. Here in Portland Human Kindness is
Symbolized by the Community Chest
The chest symbolizes more. It symbolizes the city's Community
Spirit of Co-Operation. It symbolizes the desire and inspiration of
8000 workers who contribute their time and energy in addition to their
subscription to the Chest. It symbolizes the motive behind a cam
paign that demonstrates system, efficiency and the elimination of
waste in assembling and distributing its contents.

Past Performance Gives Future Promise
One year ago the Community Chest was an experiment in Portland.
Today it is a known success. Everyone patron and beneficiary alike
unite in glad acclaim for the Community Chest as the better way.
Last year many contributed their share hesitatingly. Today , they stand
eagerly ready to repeat and increase their share of one year ago.
Tomorrow Morning at 9 o'Clock
8000 workers, many of them your neighbors, who have volunteered for
service to take the necessary time from their affairs will go forth on
this great errand for humanity to call and ascertain your wishes con
cerning how and to what extent you will share in this Community
Spirit of Co-Operation.
All Is in Readiness Do Your Part Quickly and Cheerfully
Where the Money Goes
Throughout the coming twelve months the Community Chest will supply
all the money needed to carry on the work of 45 agencies for humanity
just as it did so efficiently, so intelligently and so satisfactorily during
the year just closed. That means you will not be solicited during the
coming year for similar funds all other such drives being prohibited.
