IIox ana line- parties were preceded by dinners. The cbrysa-ntliemum. show was one of the most artistic and beautiful affairs of tHe year. It opened with a tea Wednesday afternoon, when Mrs. II. B. Van Duzer and other matrons formed the receiving party and. Wel comed several hundred suests in the, preen room of the Chamber of Com merce. To the women of the receiv ing; party were presented bouquets of orchids, rosea and violets. The women serving; were stationed at tea tables placed amid the.' wealth of chrysan themum blooms. Mra. Roy T. 'Bishop had as a background a ' mass of golden-bronze chrysanthemums. Oth ers aervina; were placed amid pink, yellow and snowy white blossoms. The Rlrls serving; "attended strictly to business" and each guest- via served promptly. In addition to the chrysanthemums there were carna tions and orchids and a display of potted plants. The horse show, of course., waa an all-Important factor of the aoclal cal endar of the week. r For the coming- week the. first event , of interest will he the opening of the new lace ' room of the Portland art museum tomorrow. 'The establish ment of this lace room was suggested by Mrs. Frederick Pratt of New Tork, a sister of Mrs. Helen Lradd Vorbett, and by Mrs. Oscar Meyer of New Tork, a sister of Mra' Solomon Hirsch. . Among- Portland women who have contributed to the room are Mrs. H. , W. Corbett. Mrs. William' Ladd. Mrs." W. J. Burns, Mrs. Elizabeth Bourne, Miss Henrietta and Miss May Failing, Miss Rose Goodman and Miss Ella Pe Hart. Everyone is brushing up on bridge, preparing for the bridge tournament which will be an eent of Novem ber 18. m m m Miss Dorothy Strowbridge has re turned from San Francisco, where she was the guest of Mrs. Francis. I .angton. -ieneral and Mrs. Richard M. hianhrord entertained Tuesday at a aiuner party at the commanding gen eral's residence in Vancouver bar racks and dispensed hospitality later at a box party at the horse show. - -Major A. Invitations have been Issued to more than 400 guests. m m m The horse show was the main attraction every night last week, and the majority of the dinner parties and many luncheons vera given as p re-show events. While the audi ences did not present a particularly "dressed up" appearance, there were many handsome wraps and furs in evidence, for a horse show is a chilly place unless one is well wrapped. There were many interesting visitors who greatly enjoyed the show and who were honor guests at many of the dinner and box parties. General Wright, who is In command of the Ninth corps area at the Pre sidio at San Francisco, was a visitor In Portland during the week. He was entertained on a highway trip and at dinner by Colonel and Mra. Cabell. .
