NEW TORK, May 21. Financial mar
kets this week indicated Wiat further im
portant readjustments were to be ex
pected in the country's recovery toward
pre-war condftlona Developments in the
stock market gave evidence that many I
irregularities, which had their origin in
inflated values, over-production and ab
normally high operating costs, were be
ing subjected to more drastic revision. Wall
street and investors showed they had be
come more or less Inured to reduced or
nent hut FKv no auantltv. and the opin
Ion prevailed that foreign buyers would
not follow the advance. Country offerings
were very liberal and larger receipts are
expected next week. Should rains occur
over Sunday the market would be very
vulnerable to selling pressure and the
technical position has been weakened oy
short covering the past few days.
Corn being under pressure eany in me
session, this market developea greater
strength than was shown for a long time.
Cash prices were about 1 cents higher
and shipping demand quite active, witr
sales of 200,000 bushels reported. Country
offerings to arrive were liberal and the
trade expects about 500 cars for Monday's
market. The course of prices for the Im
mediate future will depend on the ability
of the cash demand to take care of the
increased receipts. Indications are not
lacking that the offerings will be well
taken, m wnicn event it goes witnout say
intr that a strong market will obtain.
Oats This market got out of the rut
and advanced sharply, with offerings light.
Crop advices Indicating continued loss In
condition, combined with an active snip
ping demand at hihger prices, caused the
reversal of sentiment. Country offerings
were reported fairly liberal, but not large
enough to be considered Indicative of be
ing burdensome at this level of prices.
Rye futures were higher, with a strong
situation apparent In both May ana July.

This was seen not only, in the strength I May.

The position of the railroads showed
some signs of improvement arising from
increased tonnage and -the proposed wage
