They are to plan, superintend the building and manage' the institutions when operating.- Miss Katherine Brown, former own- ! er and manager of the Parish Players of Chicago, will act as president of the women's company; Mrs. Glenna Smith Tinnin, of Washington, and Mrs. May H. Official credit for 87 loops In an airplane goes to Miss Laura Browm well, 23-year-old girl who has Just shattered the world's record for wom " en fliers. While she is credited with 87 loops, she started looping out of sight of ol-Bervers and declared she counted 100 loops before losing track of them. She ascended alone in a Curtis biplane to 10,000 feet, v The best previous record was held by Miss Ruth Law who did 24 loops and who was then beaten by a French woman who did 25. Miss Brownwell Is a licensed pilot and flew from New York to the third annual Pan-Ameri can aeronautical congress, held re' cently in Atlantic City, in her own plane. Miss Mary Morosini, woman marks man, is not only a crack rifle shot, but she can construct, take apart and assemble any. manner of firearm. She uses a regular U. S. army rifle on her targets. Fifi Widener Leidy isj still society's pet in eastern circles despite the dark rumors of a family estrangement last spring when she married Carter Leidy Mrs, Leidy is the capricious and at tractive daughter of the exclusive Wideners of Philadelphia.-, She and her husband are spending the season at Newport. Miss Consuelo Furman of New York is Just $500 richer today because she had pretty feet and ankles. In fact a committee of New York Judges who were supposed to recognize the con tour of the most perfect feet and ankles awarded her such a prize after hours of deep study in thei task of selection. William Belcher, the choir director, promises some exceptionally good music. . At the Bible school at 9:45 Mrs. Nugent will give a lecture on "How We Got Our Bible," illustrated by lantern slides. Mrs. Nugent has given this subject a great deal of study and everyone attending will be assured a treat. There will not be time for the entire lecture at the morning hour, and the rert of the- talk wtll be given on Thursday night at the Bible study meetina, which meets, at 8 o'clock. , Beginning September 26 Central an nounces a series of picture-lectures on "Better America," to he gives 'ja connection with their regular Sun day evening service. This will "be continued for ten Sunday evenings. The material for these picture-lectures was' gathered by Rev. Newell Dwight Hillis in his studies, travels and lectures. THE 18th amendment and law en forcement will be the subject of the temperance address at First Methodist church next Sunday night, when pr. T. Leigh Colvin, the candi date ror vice-president on the prohi bition ticket, will speak. Mr. Colvin, a good Methodist layman, is recog nized as one of the ablest temperance orators in America today and will doubtless be heard to great advan tage in this Sunday night temperance address. Mr. Colvin will make regu lar political campaign speeches in the city on Saturday, but this will be a special Sunday meeting address. in the morning at 18:30 there will be a sacramental communion service. 'China From the Personal Experi ences of a Religious Teacher" will be the eubject at the Epworth Methodist Episcopal church Sunday evening. "When Strife Shall Cease" will be the topic of the sermon at the Lents Methodist Episcopal church. The Rev. F. R. Sibley of Lents and the Rev. J. Stanford Moore of Epworth will occupy their regular pulpits for the morning services, 11 A. M., and exchange for the 8 o'clock hour. "The Kingship of the Servant of All" Is the morning eubject of the Rev. J. IL Irvine at the Woodlawn Methodist church. The evening serv ice, at which a group of gifted young people will describe the Epworth league institute as they ehared it at Jefferson camp this year, will be held at 7:30 o'clock. Port Orford, Empire and other Coos bay points. The southwestern convocation will meet next Wednes day at Bandon. St. Andrew's, Portsmouth. Under the able leadership of Mrs. Thomas, the church school of this mission is steadily increasing. The 11 o'clock service are being held regularly. Mrs. Thomas is responsible for the church music. Nation-wide Campaign. The Rev. L. G. Wood, from headquarters in New York, paid a flying visit to Portland on Tuesday and addressed a meeting of the diocesan committee that evening. Mr. Wood states that the campaign is meeting with the greatest success all over the country and that only two dioceses have up to the present refused to come in. Plans were made ror .the all-day conference under the leadership of Dr. R. W. Patton, which will be held Septembsr 28. Oregon was stated to be one of the leaders in the whole country, both in organization and in results ob tained. Mr. Wood- left for California whence he swings round to Kentucky and thence back to New York. He states the whole church is fired with a spirit of courageous opt'mism. Services at the Pro-Cathedral will be held on Sunday as follows: Holy communion at 7:45 A. M.; morning prayer and sermon at 11 o'clock; young people's meeting at 6:30 P. M. evening prayer and sermon at 7:45 The dean will preach at both serv ices. A meeting of the cathedral chapter will be held Monday evening, September 13, at 8 o'clock, in the dean's office. The Young People's society of St. Stephen's Pro-Cathdral will hold its regular meeting at 6:10 P. M. Sunday, September 12, in the parish bouse, at the corner of Thirteenth and Clay streets. The meeting will be in charge of Miss Myla Shabers, president, with the Very Rev. A. T. T. Hicks, dean, as the principal speaker. He will take for his subject "The Origin and Trans-- misBion of the Holy Scriptures " cem- mencing with "The King James and the Revised Version." - Dr. Morrison will begin a series of talks on the pathology of religion on Sunday evenings- at 8 o'clock in Trinity church. September 19. Dr. Byron J. Clark, pastor of the First church, will be the host of the conference. Ministers and lay delegates from Oregon and western Washington will attend. Dr. G. E. McDonald, superintend ent of the Oregon conference, re ports two outstanding financial achievements of the past year. The drive throughout the Oregon confer ence for an additional $25,000 en dowment for the denominational col lege at Philomath. Or., went $1000 beyond the njark, making $26,000 in all. Then thre was the United en listment movement to raise $30,719, Oregon's quota of the $4,000,000 to be raised throughout the denomination. This drive also overstepped the quota by $1000. Rev. is. B. ward, a returned missionary from China, with a record of 22 years in the foreign field, wiU be present to add inspiration to the session. The annual session of the Oregon Union convention of the Christian En deavor of this denomination will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, pro ceeding the conference dates.
