Much regret Is being expressed at the departure of Colonel and Mrs. White for Salem, where they will make their future , home. 1 A complete surprise of yesterday was the announcement of the engage ment of Miss Miriam Hilton to L. L. F. Fearon of Kobe, Japan, and Kuala Lampur, India. The, news was told by Mrs. F. E. Hilton and the bride elect at a tea at which they enter tained yesterday for 100 guests. The affair was planned for Miss Ellen Calhoun of Seattle, an interesting visitor. Mrs. Robert Neighbor and Mrs. L. S. Martin presided at the tea table. Assisting about the rooms were Miss Alma Sharps, Miss Marjorie Rudd and Miss Virginia Wilson.. The bride-to-be is an attractive and lovely girl, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Hilton. She has traveled ex tensively and met Mr. Fearon while on her recent visit to the orient. The bridegroom-to-be is a member of a well-known and distinguished family. He is the son of W. F. K. Fearon of Kobe. The family is Engrlish and is prominent in the business world. They have business interests in Kobe and Kuala Lampur and the couple will make their home In India. The wed ding will take place in the spring. Mr. Fearon is a member of the firm of Baker, Fearon & Co. A happy tribute to a most charming woman was the tea that Mrs. John A.
