Saturday, bringing with her her
daughter, Mrs. Goullet.
Mr. and Mrs. F. Breske are in their
house at Gearhart. Their daughter is
also at the beach.
Mrs. A. Sullivan of Baker is estab
lished in her cottage for the summer
and has her daughter with her. Miss
Sullivan is just being Initiated in the
game of golf.
Mrs. Ira F. Powers arrived at the
beach a week ago Friday and is in
her summer home.
Dr. Gustave Baar has opened up his
house at Gearhart for the season. Mrs.
Baar's mother, Mrs. Rosenblatt, is a

of Vacationists Over July 4.

Special.) Two holidays coming to
gether, warm weather in the valley
and ocean breezes and sunshine
proved a combination whfch lured
pleasure-seekers to the beach in big
crowds over July 4. Ferry and auto
stages, making the round trips as
rapidly as possible, tried to accom
modate the vacationists arriving by
Portland trains and beach specials,
while private machines in a steady
procession arrived with their merry
parties from all parts of western
Oregon. Brisk automobile drives on
the smooth sand, driftwood bonfires,
hikes to Short Sand beach and to the
top of Neah-Kah-Nie mountain were
a few of the diversions which repaid
all who sought this resort for their
cut ing.
Mrs. A. King was hostess recently
at a party in honor of the formal
opening of the Neah-Kah-Nie season.
All the cottagers were guests.
Tuesday evening the Epworth
league of Nehalem motored over for
a bonfire social. Singing and games
preceded an enjoyable moonlight
drive back.
Dr. and Mrs. Luther H. Howland of
Portland motored in over the Seaside
road for the holidays.
Among July 4 visitors here were
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Tyler and party
of Astoria.

lunch July 6, before proceeding to
the celebration at Rockaway. The

the Astoria-Seaside-Tillamook road
were completed Just in time to accom
modate the crowds of motorists who
desired to spand their Fourth of July
holidays at this beach. The vanguard
of the merrymakers began arriving

cial.) The summer season is now in
full swing at this beach, with more
than the usual number of vacation
ists already here. Interest is about
equally divided between the various
beach entertainments and activities
bonfire parties on the beach, bathing
in the surf and lake, hiking trips,
crabbing and fishing expeditions.
Later there will be huckleberries in
abundance in the big timber of the
neighboring hills.

Sheridan road, having attended tho
