trol of the Oregon High School Ath
letic .association held here last night,
the New berg school was formally
ordered to forfeit a recently played
D.i sk, ft. all game to McM innville.
The McMinnvillc faculty filed pro
test with the board on the grounds
that the Newberg team, which pre
vailed In the contest, had two men
In their line-irp who were ineligible
under the rules of the association.
The explanation was made before the
board that both the -superintendent
and principal of the Newberg school
were ill at the time the game was
played, and that one of the teachers
in charge of the contest allowed the
participants in question to compete.

lem. March 20. (Special.) Baseball
workouts for the 1920 season began
Wednesday afternoon. Paul Brown
has been elected captain and practice
will start in earnest next week. Seven
baseball "W" men are in the univer
sity this year, six of these from last
year's squad, and a number of over
seas men as well as subs of 1919 will
work hard for regular positions.
A workout was held this afternoon
with the Salem Senators, and the reg
ular season will begin within two
weeks. The schedule is not complete,
but will include games with the Uni
versity of Oregon, probably Stanford
university, and some of the non-conference
institutions in the state.

by Smith and the same number was
safely located off Scott. Big Jim
O'Connell started off the scoring for
the Seals in the second frame with
a drive over the automobiles in left
field. He was allowed a three-base
hit and came home when Hamilton
doubled. Hamilton completed the cir
cuit with Fonseca's drive to center.

cause he finally got together with
Matchmaker Frank Kendall of the
Milwaukie boxing commission and
signed each of his boxers, Joe Gorman
and Billy Mascott. up for two battles
at the Milwaukie arena Both of these
mittmen, who are now in California,
will box at Milwaukie March 31, and
also at the first show in April.
Evans also closed for Mascott and
Gorman to box In Seattle next Friday

Earl Baird while Mascott is to tackle
either an English bantamweight
named Mansell or Sailor Etzel.
The boy's opponents in Milwaukie,
March 31, have not yet been selected.
Both Gorman and Mascott have been

Yale won the eastern Inter-eollegiate
swimming meet here tonight with a
total of 34 points. Pennsylvania was
second with eight points, and Prince
ton was third with six.
Edwin Binney Jr. of South Beach
Conn., a member of the Yale team,
broke the intcr-colleglate record for
the 50-yard event when he did the
distance in 24 2-5 seconds.
Sieelheud Run Is Good.
GOLD HILL. Or.. March 20. (Spe
cial.) An unusual large run of steel
head trout is now on in the Rogue
river and its tributaries, due to the
recent rains and snow flooding the
streams. A few Chinook salmon have
been seen in the river near Gold Hill
which is unusual before April. Some
illegal catching of spawning steel-
head and cutthroat trout in the small
streams in the north end of the
county was reported.

Committees Named.
Another meeting of semi-pro ball
managers will be held in the club
rooms of the Multnomah guard, 23
Chamber of Commerce building,
Thursday night at 8 o'clock, under the
auspices of the newly organized Port
land Baseball association. At this
meeting a suitable constitution will
be acted on, a committee on classif ica
tion named and another to work out
schedules for the league.
The association is the direct out
growth of the renewed interest being
taken in semi-professional ball and
has as its object the advancement of
the sport throughout the state. The
charter roll is still open and all teams
this vicinity are entitled to mem
bership upon application to the proper
officers. Affiliation with the asso
ciation does not bind any team to
enter the proposed city league, it
beintr left to each team's representa
tive to decide whether he would
rather play independent ball or enter
the city contests. Those playing in
the league will, however, be given at
least one game each month out of
town, it being arranged to conduct a
booking agency in conjunction with
the other activities of the association.
"In the interest of the sport," says
Jack Routledge, president, "every
manager should align himself with
the new organization next Thursday
night. We will accomplish more
through co-operation and harmonious
action than under the old plan of
every team for itself, and we will
also put the game on. a better and
more substantial basis.
