The
Christmas Joy of a Phonograph
Lasts All the Year
Nowadays the phonograph is a part of
HOME.
When we want music we summon the
stars of the operatic world or the great
pianists, cellists and violinists who have
played records for our own instrument
and there before the fire, while the rain
drips outside, we hear Gluck and Zimbalist
in the "Swedish Cradle Song," the Phila
delphia Orchestra in "Festival at Bagdad,"
Mme. Alda and Mon. Martinelli in "La
Boheme," Caruso in "Elisir d'Amore,"
Galli-Curci in "Traviata."
If we are bored we turn to a record of
Sousa's Band or to "Everybody Shimmies
Now" or to a Harry Lauder record or "I'se
Gwine Back to Dixie."
If neighbors come in we dance to the
latest Broadway tunes.
If it's church music we want we call on
the Tuskegee Singers to give us "Go Down
Moses," "Old-Time Religion," "Swing Low,
Sweet Chariot," Heaven Song, Inchin'
Along," and perhaps we follow them with
the Trinity Choir of New York singing
"Angels From the Realms of Glory" or the
Victor Chorus in Beethoven's "The Heav
ens Resound" or "Gloria Patri."
With a phonograph the music of the
world is in one's own home and what joy
it is to make such a gift of year-long
pleasure! .
