DR. THOMPSON IS PRAISED
Portland Pastors' "Y" Work De
tailed by "Foyer and Hut."
Foyer and Hut, published in Seattle
by the T. M. C. A., has in its latest
issue, among other stories of Portland
men and women who served with dis
tinction in the red triangle forces in
France, the following concerning Dr.
D. A. Thompson, of this city.
"Rev. D. A. Thompson, pastor of the
Mizpah Presbyterian church, Portland,
Or, is a man we want to mention in
connection with Turney hut. "When ha
first got to France he wanted to go
to the front.
" They brought the front to me. how
ever,' he said, and by that he meant
that thousands of wounded and gassed
Tanks were sent to the great base hos
pitals at Bordeaux and he had a part
in helping them.
"You can get an Idea how the boys
liked 'him when we say that the Y"
operated a hut in base hospital No. 6
for 10 months before the Red Cross
were ready to take over the work and
they petitioned for him to stay on the
Job. Rev. Mr. Thompson has recently
returned to Portland, wearing three
gold stripes, all earned in the same
camp in Bordeaux. His work is typical
of what hundreds of 'Y' men and wom
en did in France, many of them too
old to march in the ranks, but not too
old to suffer privations and give up the
pleasures of home to do their part."

'Security 'Savings and TnistPlan
for
Creating an Estate
The estate of the average business man consists of:
(a) his investment in his business;
(b) his home, clear or mortgaged, as the case may be;
(c) whatever outside investments he may possess;
(d) his household goods and personal effects.
Too many men depend solely upon their occupations for
income and profit.
It should be the aim of every man to create for himself an
income-producing estate.
Then, when business conditions are good he is assured two
incomes one from his business and one from his Estate.
During business depression he has the income from his
' Estate to fall back upon.
While conceding the desirability of owning an independent
Estate, many men look down upon it as an achievement be
yond possibility.
The Security Savings and Trust Company believes it is
quite possible for the average man to create with comparative
case, an independent Estate.
It has devised a PLAN for doing so. The plan is easy to
initiate and follow. It is fully explained in our booklet, the
'Security Savings and Trust Plan" for Creating or Enlarging
an Estate.
Ask for the booklet in person, by mail or phone.

The Importance of
Looking Successful
It is particularly necessary for a young professional man doctor,
lawyer, architect, engineer to have a successful looking office.
And doubly necessary when he has become famous.
The young man must make his
clients believe that he is going
to be successful. Otherwise they
will have no confidence in him.
Prominent professional and
business men have their pres
