COL. BUGGE KNOWN HERE
Late Commandant at West Point
Once at Vancouver Barrack.
Colonel Jens Bugge, TJ. S. A-, re
tired, commandant of cadets at the
United States military academy and
formerly stationed at Vancouver Bar
racks with the 21st infantry, died at
West Point, N. T., on the morning of
July 17, and was buried the following
day with full military honors there.
Colonel Bugge was born in Wiscon
sin. September 21, 1870, ana was a
graduate of West Point in the class of
1895. He served in several campaigns
in the Philippines and was a member
of the army of pacification in Cuba
He was retired for disability in the
line of duty, September 15, 1916, but
returned to the service to take a posi
tion on the greneral staff of the Amer
ican expeditionary forces in France. He
served in this capacity during the
early part of the war with Germany,
but was transferred finally to the mili
tary academy, where he was com
mandant of cadets at his death.
Brigadier-General Arthur MacArthur
made the address at the funeral services.

January 26 to 31, 1920, if the city coun
cil approves a contract submitted by
Hal M. White, manager of the public
auditorium between the city and the
San Carlos Opera company.

ADA M. LUNGER IS DEAD
Son Arrives From France Day After
McMinnville "Woman's Death.
Ada M. Lunger, wife of W. W. Lunger,
rominent rancher and member of the
state legislature from Yamhill county.
died at McMinnville August . cm
was stricken with appendicitis and
other complications July 16 at her home
near Lafayette and was taken to Mc
Minnville, where she underwent an operation.
She was buried in the Masonic ceme
tery at McMinnville, many Masons and
embers of the Order or me eastern
Star, of which the deceased was a mem
ber, attending the funeral. Mrs. Lunger
was born in Springfield, 111., and was
55 years old. She was graduated from
the Illinois state normal school, and
was married in 18S8 at Dixon. 111., com
ing to Oregon in 1910. She accompa
nied her husband to Salem for the 1917
session of the legislature. She ie sur
vived by her husband and a son, Fred
erick W. Lunger, who returned irom
active service in France the day after
his mother's death.
War Cross Is Awarded.
BOISE, Idaho. Aug. 9. (Special.)
The war department has issued notice
that there has been awarded for pres
entation to Mrs. Sallie G. Adams of
Caldwell a distinguished service cross
on account of bravery of her son,
Samuel Adams, who was killed in ac
tion. He was a first lieutenant in the

Much Activity Planned for Coming
Season In Portland.
The first luncheon for 1919-20 of the
Musicians' club will take place Tues
day. September 2 at 12:15 P. M. The
club Is planning- to establish & num
ber of new departments, vocal, instru
mental, music trades, art and litera
ture. The officers of the club are:
President, George E. Jeffrey; vice
president, 1L A. Webber; secretary,
Fredrick TV. Goodrich, and treasurer,
rr. Kmil Enna.
Xew members are desired and all
male musicians and teachers who wish
to join ar-e asked to communicate with
the secretary. Mr. Goodrich. A plan is
being; discussed to secure downtown
permanent headquarters for the organization.

DALLAS. Or., Aug. 9. (Special.)
The city council this week passed an
ordinance regulating the speed of mo
tr vehicles within the city limits and
prohibiting the driving of automobiles
by children under the age of 16 years.
This ordinance was passed in order that
the city speed laws will be the same
as those passed at the last session of
the Ptate legislature. Marshal Chase
was instructed to enforce the ordinance
to the letter.
