Aug. 10. (Special) The first flays or August have exceed ed the most sanguine expectations of hotel proprietors and lessees of cot tages at this resort. During; the lat ' ter part of the previous week which proclaimed the opening of the last v cation month. Seaside was thronged with pleasure seekers. It Is ever grow Ing in popularity with motorists, hlk ers and campers, and all roads leading from Portland and vicinity carry the Summer visitors Into Seaside if only for a few hours. Seaside is unquestlon ably a favorite rendezvous of the Summer vacationist. Last week a party of motorists oc cupying three machines stopped in this city for a couple of days, proceeding later to the Tillamook country. The party Included: Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hemphill. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hemp hill. Mr. and Mrs. O. Hemphill. Mrs. H. Borland. Miss Borland. Mrs. M. Steele. Mrs. Irene Steele. Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Herlehy. Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Baguley, Ralph Hemphill and K. Coffman. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Pattullo, Mr. and Mrs. Lester A. Means, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glenn, Josephine and Edward Yocum and Matthew Conway motored from Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Means were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glenn .over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Harker Smith returned Sunday night from Portland in their car. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Rasmussen mo tored down a few days ago from Port land for a few weeks' stay. Mrs. Julius Louisson, who went to town for the conference of workers In the recent Armenian drive, which was held at the Portland Hotel. Sunday morning, returned that evening to her ' cottage here. Mr. Louisson. who spent the week in Seaside, joined L N. Flelschner and Dr. R. F. Davis went to Nehalem on a fishing trip early in the week. Dr. R. J. Chlpman spent several days over the week-end in this city with his family. Louis Goldsmith was a visitor of the Marcus Fleischners over the week end. Miss- D. Esther Goodman, who has been visiting her mother and sister. Mrs. George Alexander, returned to Port land. Mrs. Mary Knowles is occupying her cottage for a brief time. Her daughter. Mrs. Laura Summervllle, is visiting her. Captain and Mrs. John Henry Hayden (Margaret Ayer) moved into Mrs. Sum nervine's cottage Monday. Mrs. William Michell. Miss Michell and Miss Annette Michell, of The Dalles, are recent arrivals in Seaside. Lieutenant Robert W. Hoffman, U. S. A., left early in the week for Van couver)! Barracks. Sunday evening be entertained with an informal dinner party at Johnson's. His guests were Mrs. Jerry Newman, Misses Helen and Gladys Dunne. Dr. Allen. U. S. A., and Lieutenant Thomas Conlln, U. S. Mies Elizabeth Wiggins is visiting friends here. Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCrillis came down Saturday and they are domiciled In Johnson's cottage, on Twelfth ave nue and boardwalk. Mrs. E. Bonnewell arrived Sunday vening for a brief visit with her daughter. Mrs. Henry W. Wagner. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thomas (Ruth Marvin) and baby daughter are spend Ing a couple of weeks at Locksley Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Senders and Jimmy Senders also are at the Hall for a fortnight. Mrs. Alice Benson Beach came down Thursday to organize a branch of the National League for Woman's Service in Astoria, and she spent the balance of the week at her cottage in Seaside with her family. She left Monday . evening for Portland. Dr. and Mrs. R. F. Davis and family are occupying the Palm cottage. Lieutenant and Mrs. Milo R. Robbins loft early in the week for San Fran cisco, where they were called on ac count of the death of the latter'a moth er. Mrs. Osborne. Mrs. M. J. Lyon entertained Wednes day afternoon with an informal tea. Mrs. Martin Marx presided at the table, and she was assisted in serving by Miss Gladys Dunne. Misses Betty and Sylvia Lyon. Saturday evening Lieutenant and Mrs. Jacques de la Montanya were hosts at an informal supper and dance at their cottage. Their guests includ ed: Misses Marian Citron. Helen and Gladys Dunne. Margaret Barry, Sylvia and Betty Lyon. Mrs. Daniel Meyer, Lieutenant and Mrs. Crell. Captain F. C. Whitton. Lieutenants Thomas Conlin, Gresham and Allen. Judge and Mrs. Charles Latourette. of Oregon City, left Sunday evening for Portland. During their absence their cottage is being occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Latourette. and Mr. and Mrs. John Hickson. Jack Latour rtte was a visitor with his family over trie week-end. Samuel Hill, dean of good roads, was a guest of Colonel David M. Dunne last week for a day. Herman Wieland. of San Francisco, was a visitor in Seaside over Sunday. Mrs. James Ellis (Helen Lytle). for merly of Portland, now of St. Louis, nnd her baby son are house guests of Airs. Henry Frank. Mr. and Mrs. Horace E. Mrs. John Fleshman and son, John, the latter of Oklahoma, are house guests of the former's daughter, Mrs. Ouy Porter, in the Breyman cottage. Mrs. Mulvane and children, of Topeka. Kan., also are house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Porter. Oskar Driscoll. Mrs. M. J. Delahunt, Lucile Delahunt and Ruth Norton are recent additions to the cottage colony. Mr. and Mrs. James F. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Preston have opened their handsome cottage in Her mosa Park for August. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ballin and family, who recently purchased the Cabaniss home on the boardwalk. Hermosa Park, motored down early in the week and they expect to remain for the balance of the Summer. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Labbe and chil dren have opened the Labbe cottage on the boardwalk for the month of August. Mrs. George Baker and children are domiciled in their cottage in Hermosa Park. Mrs. Hattie K. Boord, who spent a few weeks in Portland, has returned here for the balance of the season. ' Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly. Early went to Port land Sunday to meet her son, Raymond, who has been stationed at Camp Lewis. Mrs. Ira Powers spent a few days in Seaside with friends, returning Sun day to town. Miss Leah Cohen returned to sea side for a vacation. She is with her mother in their cottage on Third avenue. Mrs. G. Nickerson and daughter. Miss Clea. are occupying the Necanicum cottage for the month of August. Mrs. Fred L. Kelley and daughter. Virginia, Mrs. Alden R. B. von Klein Smld, of Tucson, Ariz., with Miss Elizabeth von Klein Smld, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. I. Fuller on a motoring rip from Portland, arriving at the Tavern Saturday. They left the follow ng morning for Seaside and Portland. Mr. and Mrs. I. R. Walker and daugh ter and Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Mitchell and two children, of Portland, and Daniel King, of Minneapolis, returned home after a few days spent in the Cone cottage. Lloyd Wentworth motored in with Miss Wentworth and Miss Stuart to pend Sunday with his family, taking Mrs. Wentworth and the children back with him Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Paul C.
