a rally in the opera-house last night
and listened to speeches in behalf of

Miller and J. Bowerman. The Silver
ton Band furnished music for the oc
casion and local talent rendered a

Judge Mark Paulson acted as chair
man at the meeting. Mr. Bowerman
stood upon the platform and held in
view of the audience a medal awarded
to Morris Warnock. 14 years old, lor
having sold ten liberty bonds last

School faculty members are engaged
in promoting war work of various
kinds. President Ackerman, and Rev.
Edward H. Pence, of Portland, have
been the principal speakers at Liberty
bond meetings held throughout Polk
County. During the closing days of
the drive nearly every male member of
the faculty will become a speaker, urg
ing the purchase of the bonds.
Organizing the conservation forces
of Polk County in the schoolroom hes
been the work of M. S. Plttman. head
of the rural school department, who Is
county chairman of the conservation
committee. The Normal faculty has
organized itself into a school of In
struction on conservation and the first
meeting is set for Sunday.
