Dr. Carlo Visetti, who with Sr. O.
Jlontrezisa, wan indicted for the crimi
nal libel of Paulo !. Brenna, Italian
Consul for this district, was Indicted
for another alleged criminal libel In
a secret indictment returned by the
grand jury Thursday and made public
esterday.
Both indictments are tha result of
articles -which have been published by
3 Jr. Visetti in the Italian Journal, an
Italian publication which started up
within a month after Dr. Visetti had
been discharged as agent for tha Italian
Consul in Portland.
Because of the discharge of Dr.
Visetti. Portland Italians have been di
vided Into two opposing factions, which
has resulted in bitter enmity for sev
eral months past.
In the second secret Indictment re
turned Thursday, Dr. Visetti Is ac
cused of making another vicious at
tack against the character of Consul
Brenna, although it is not as vitriolic
or as lengthy as the one on which the
indictment against him two months ago
was based.
The indictment alleges that on July
20 last he published in the Italian Jour
nal the following statement against
Consul Brenna:
"I have read you In your soul, diplo
mat born from a house of prostitution."
As in the case of the other indictment
against him, it is understood that no
formal arrest will be made. Presiding
Judge Tucker, before whom the in
dictment was returned, has fixed the
bail bond at $1000. which, it is said,
will be furnished at once.
The pronounced disagreement be
tween the two factions of Portland
Italians reached a climax Friday even
ing, when Dr. Visetti sponsored a pro
test meeting t the plaza block, oppo
site tho Courthouse, during the hour
that Consul Brenna. was being feted
by his fellow-countrymen at the Mult
nomah Hotel in honor of his recent
decoration by the Italian government.
