The Damascus Grangers held a mid Winter picnic at the old Hillerary Hall tonight. TRIAL FOR ARS0N IS SET Man Charged Witn Burning Astoria Mill May Plead Insanity. ASTORIA. Or.. Feb. 24. (Special.) Jermiah Sllvola, the man who is said to have set fire to the Clatsop Mill Com pany's plant a few weeks ago, causing a loss of fully $160,000. pleaded not guilty to a charge of arson, and his trial was set for March 13. It is under stood his defense will be a plea of in sanity. The crand Jury returned an indict ment this afternoon against H. S. GI11 nett. of Portland, charging him with obtaining money by false pretense from William. Bock, his father-in-law. Cos C. Moser Will Speak. The constructive legislation accon plished In the 1917 session of the Ore gon Legislature will be the subject of the address at the members' council luncheon of the Chamber of Commerce tomorrow noon. Gus C. Moser, presi dent of the Senate, will be the principal speaker of the day. W. D. B. Dodson, managing secretary of the Chamber, will make a report on the bills In which the Chamber was Interested. FRANK ORTH IS BURIED Victim of Blood Poisoning Is In terred at Cornelius. FOREST GROVE. Or., Fel. 24. (Spe cial.) The body of Frank Orth, who died In a Portland hospital from the effects of bolod poisoning caused by a email boil in his nose, was taken from this city to Cornelius for burial. Mr. Orth until a few days previous kto his death had been in the best of health. Harry H. Stewart and P. G. Kinzer, of Seattle, Wash., officers of the company employing Mr. Orth, were in attendance at the funeral. Mr. Orth was 39 years old. He was born in Mayvllle. Wis. He was mar ried in that state to 'Miss Minnie 45 y November 28. 1902. They came to Ore gon 16 years ago. He is survived by his widow and two daughters. Moscow Wants Union Depot. MOSCOW. Idaho. Feb. 24. (Special.) tinder the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce, a move has been launched to secure a union depot for Moscow. A petition is being circulated and within a few. weeks will be presented to the officials of the three railroads operat ing through the city, asking that the improvement he granted. It is under stood the Northern Pacific contem plates building a new station here this Summer. Railroad Man Promoted. OREGON CITY, Or.. Feb. 24. (Spe cial.) H. D. Olds, who for two years has been agent of the Southern Pa cific here, has received notice of his appointment as traveling freight agent of the line with headquarters in Port land. No successor for the place her has been named. f
