The figrht on the part of the Beavers was an uphill one. Every time they made a run, the Angels went out In front or tied the score until the eighth. With the score 3 to 3 In the eighth the Beavers staged a rally that netted two runs and won the game. The Angels made a terrific effort to win In the last half of the eighth but fell one rftn short. The rally that won the game hap pened as follows: Rodgers walked, Southworth singled to center, sending Kodgers to second. Gulsto bunted to Hall who tossed Rod gers out at third, Southworth taking second. Fisher singled, scoring South worth and putting Guisto on third. Nix on fanned. But Ward rose to the emergency and sent Guisto across the plate with the last run, Roche, running for Fisher, was thrown out making a desperate effort to reach the plate. Lowdermilk'a chief trouble was wild ness. He was continually walking men and filling the Dags. This was the trouble in the first when the Angela scored two, in the fifth when they tied the score, and in the ninth when they came near tieing the score again. Char ley Hall was hit hard at all times. Score: Portland I Los Angeles B H O A El BHOAE Wllle.m. 5 3 1 0 0 Jackson.m 4 15 0 0 Kvans.3. . . BURNS' ARREST MISTAKE Well-Known Boxer Proves to Be Not Man Police Is Seeking. "Farmer" Burns (Jack Swinton), the light-heavyweight boxer who has ap peared at several boxing- shows at the Rose City Athletic Club of late, was the victim of circumstances last week when he was arrested by the Portland police. The man the police wanted is Jim Burns. It was reported to them that he might be found at the smoker. Two detectives were dispatched across the river and they fell upon "Farmer" Burns, whose real name Is- not Burns but Swinton. Swinton protested, but was taken with them to jail. Things were soon straightened out and his release fol lowed. "Farmer" Burns has proved to the Portland boxing fans that he is a tough fellow and has given the crowd a run for their money in all his ap pearances at smokers in Portland. He won from J e Bonds, Erne Madden. Ike Cohen and held the fast Lowe Slmma to a draw. The night of his trouble he lost a close decision to Young Jack Johnson. Burns' friends In Portland have been wondering what the trouble was and will be glad to hear that -It was only a case of mistaken identity. Baseball Summary STANDINGS OF. THE TEAMS. National League.
