(Special.) The Oaks, pursuing the even
tenor of their way. took another lacing,
by a finah score of 7 to . this after
noon. Perhaps it was a desire to make
sure the series wan lost: or possibly
It came about because the boys from
I across the bay had no other way.
At all events, they accentuated their
licking: by the fashion in which it came
about. with a four-run lead as early
as the half-way point the tally favor
ing- them 6 to 4 the Oaks simply could
not hold the middle of the road, skidded
to one side with Crandall tottering and
finally crashed over the grade in the
ninth.
Pullinfr up on even terms In the sixth
and seventh, the Portlandera awaited
the laet chance before they made It
certain by sending: Louis Uuisto around
the diamond on his 'own single to left,
a steal on which Kcnworth; made a
poor stop and a smash to center by
Nixon.
Bradley Maursl p Thlmaa.
Jack Bradley, novice catcher who
started with such a rush on Thursday
when he was hailed as a possible comer,
proved himself a chip off the old block
and every Inch an Oak today, and was
one of the main factors in assisting
the Oregonlans' into their win.
Bradley simply couldn't hold a ball
that was headed his way. whether a
throw or a pop-up in the air. And as
for his throwing arm. he would have
done well to nail that member to his
side. Seven bases were purloined and
his heaving- to the keystone sack grew
worse as the battle proceeded.
The Beavers showed slims of life
when Gulsto dumped the ball into the
left field bleachers for a home run in
the sixth. -
In the seventh It was the wildness of
Crandall. as mach as. anything, that
tied the score. Vaughn was down on a
grounder to second but 1 tod iters and
southworth walked in a row. a passed
ball sending Rodgers to second before
the second bit of transportation.
Doable Steal Brings Tally.
Gulsto fouled out to Bradley, with
the youngster making the catch this
lime, and a walk for Nixon filled the
sacks. Fisher drove through the in-
'ield to center as a couple of runs
phased themselves around' and a few
moments later Gus worked the double
steal with Nixon, who made the plate
safety. , .
Bradley's overthrow helped Fisher
on to third, but it was not down on
the cards for more scoring.
After that the firing was of a de
sultory nature until the Portlanders
made up their minds in the, ninth that
it was useless to extend affairs into
extra innings. Score:
