Quick thinking-, followed by rapid
action on the part of Harold Prescott
and Edward Rushton, two It-year-old
boys, saved the lives of two children
of ltenko Scbollsh. a Slavonian miner,
bere this noon when his home burned.
Mrs. Schollsh had left her five chil
dren to care for the house while she
went to visit with a neighbor, and dur
ing bar absence' the house took fire
from the overheated stove. It was all
aflame when thn two boys playing; in
the street saw It.
They rushed Into the house with the
mother, who. In her frantic efforts to
save the baby and valuable papers,
overlooked a 3-year-old son. She called
on the two boys to save the family
trunk, but they located the little boy
and threw him into the snow and then
saved a little girl who had followed
her mother back Into the burning
bouse.
Owing to the depth of the slow In
the streets and the start which the fire
had before an alarm was sounded, the
fire department had no opportunity to
save any of the contents.

ing satisfactory revival in Coos County,
and three mills that have been idle will
be operating by March 15.
The E. K. Johnson mill at Coqullie
has been sawing for the past week. The
George W. Moore mill at IVandon will
start March 15 with a d.iily average
of between 100.000 and 113.000 feet, and
tho Courtenay mill, on Isthmus inlet,
near Marshfield. will be opened by
Hugh McLaln and associates about
March 15. The operation of these mills
and tha logging camps in connection
will give employment to about 200 men.
