White, who died at Her- miston. Or., November 2. at the age of 83. had been a resident agriculturist of Umatilla County for 2 years. Born in Tennessee February IS. 1832. of Revolutionary ancestry, Mr. White crossed the plains with his parents, and upon the death of both of them when w'as but a boy, came to Jiuunoman County to live with a brother, John S. White, who later became well Known In the political life of the city and state. William C. White lived witn his brother for two years, then purchased 200 head of cattle tn lamnlll county and moved them to Umatilla County on stock ranch. The heavy winter Killed all but 18 of the cattle, and Mr. White then went to work in the placer mines, where he remained until 1863.
