Farmers from the vicinity of Corbett
and several small school children tes
tified in District Judge Bell's court
yesterday morning that P. Marino, a
road laborer, had terrorized the school
children.
At the conclusion of the hearing Ma
rino was fined $100 on the technical
charge of vagrancy. Judge Bell or
dered that he be held In jail until the
fine is paid.
One little girl testified that the chil
dren one evening had stayed in the
schoolhouso until 6 o'clock, afraid to
leave because Marino, who had chased
them from the playground, was wait
ing out.siiie. Farmers who had joined
in the all-night hunt for Marino after
this occurrence were present in the
courtroom.
Ono man said his little daughter was
forced to quit school because of the
reign of terror" alleged to have been
caused by Marino.
This ease is the second one of the
same nature near Portland within a
month. John Bordeaux, an ex-convict
witli several aliases, appeared at the
West Portland schoolhouse near Mult
nomah station and drove the children
into the schooihouse. When the
teacher went outside the man's actions
were so flagrant that the young
woman declined to testify about them.
Bordeaux' case was heard before
District Judge Jones a week ago. He
was dismissed, was told to leave the
state, and Judge Jones warned Deputy
Sheriff Phillips against attempting to
rearrest him.
