Of all gay and bustling Summer
resorts on the Pacific Coast none
can surpass this growing little town.
The latest city Improvement is the in
stallation of a public drinking foun
tain on the corner of Broadway and
Seventh street. This Is merely the
. beginning of a number that will be in
stalled later on. It Is a handsome ar
ticle and greatly appreciated not only
by residents, but by the Summer visit
ors, as it is passed by all Seasidera
going to and from the Postoffice.
The Moore grill has started enter
tainments and dancing at 8 o'clock
every night and have an augmented
and new orchestra, with the addition
of a soloist, and the Jay March Fetters,
who nightly give exhibitions of mod
ern dancing.
For the benefit of the restroom a
number of energetic Summer visitors
and residents gave an interesting and
Tell-presented vaudeville performance
on Friday night at the Orpheum Thea
ter. Miss Leah Cohen was director
of the affair and was assisted by Mrs.
Dan J. Moore, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Fet
ters and Clifford Carney. The Orpheum
Theater management donated the use
of the building and the affair proved
one of the most delightful of the sea
son. Skating parties are growing In pop
ularity and vie with the swimming and
bonfire festivities. Fishing parties
also are popular with the boys and
many of the girls and the new walk
recently completed to Tillamook Head
Is responsible for the picnics and hikes
planned so frequently. Just where
the boardwalk ends begins the most
scenic trail to Pensive Point, at the
foot of Tillamook Head. The path
was built by volunteer labor. The
members of the Seaside Commercial
Club made a holiday of the path build
ing, each member devoting two days'
labor.
There are so many paved thorough
fares rn Seaside and surrounding It
that it is the Mecca for all motorists.
Especially on Sunday the streets and
beaches are alive with motorists and
cyclists, all of whom take dips in the
surf when they arrive here, usually
Temaining for dinner and dancing, mo
toring home in the restful twilight.
The dahlias are abundant this year
and soon plans will be formulated for
the annual dahlia fair.
There was a mass meeting held on
Friday night to decide the location of
the new high school building, the ma
jority favoring Dahlia Park, which is
convenient to Gearhart and Clatsop, as
well as Seaside and outlying points.
Several days ago a number of
matrons gave a card party for the
benefit of the Catholie Church, of
which Mr. Langlard is pastor. The af
fair was held at Knights of Pythias
Hall and 12 tables were arranged tor
the guests.
A number of officers' wives who were
In Gearhart during the encampment
were hostesses for a luncheon Wednes
day at Gearhart Hotel, among the
guests being Mrs.' Alexander Gilbert,
Jr.. Mrs. Frank Baker and Mrs. John
E. Kelly, the latter two of. Portland.
Archdeacon Chambers and family, of
Portland, came down several days ago
and are established In their cottage
for the Summer. .
Mrs. J. S. Griffin, of Spokane, has
taken a cottage in Hermosa Park for
the Summer.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Warrack and
children have opened their cottage for
the balance of the season.
David Atkinson, of Portland, has
been the guest of Alexander Gilbert.
Jr., for a few days.
Mrs. Ausleton. of Galveston. Tex.,
was among the arrivals last week. She
has taken a cottage in Hermosa Park
for the Summer.
Mrs. John Kopp. of Portland. Is vis
iting her daughter, Mrs. Charles, Al
v. ard, for the balance of the season.
Mrs. G. Heitkemper, of Portland, is
visiting her daughter. Mrs. A. R. Was
cher. for a few weeks.
Mrs. J. H. Hamilton's mother. Mrs.
W. E. Dement, is visiting her for a
few weeks.
Dr. A. B. Ball passed the latter part
of the week with his family here.
Charles Schuman, of Portland, has
been visiting Alexander Gilbert.
Hyde Clark, of the Underwriters'
Equitable Rating Bureau, is passing a
week in Seaside.
Mr. and Mrs. H. Blurock. of Vancou
ver, are down for the Summer and are

Monday in Seaside to pass the Sum
mer with Mrs. Charles Blakely, in the
Yorkshire cottage.
The O. M. Scott cottage has been
opened for the season by Mrs. W. O.
Munsell, whose guests are Miss Au
gusta McCormick and Miss Vivien Pol
lett, of Portland. Miss McCormick is
a student of the Carnegie Art Insti
tute, of Pittsburg. Pa and she will re
sume her studies about September 1.
Mr. and Mrs. Scott will Join the party
next month.
At the pretty, informal tea for which
Mrs. M. S. Drake was hostess on Mon
day women's club topics and magazine
articles were discussed. The affair
was given to honor Mrs. 'J. Francis
Drake, of Portland, and the guests in
cluded a number of Portland matrons
who are summering here, as well as
leading clubwomen of this city.
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Wascher and fam
ily are established in their cottage here
for the Summer.
The P. G. Waschers also arrived re
cently and are domiciled in their Sum
mer home for the season.
Miss Louise Mesick is the house
guest of Miss Getta Wasserman at her
Summer residence at Wahanna.
Dr. and Mrs. Alan Welch Smith are
established in their attractive cottage.

Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Frakes are settled
In their cottage in Hermosa Park for

W. D. Fenton was a week-end Visitor
in Seaside with his family.

turned to town Sunday night after a
fortnight's sojourn at the Hotel Moore.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Kelly and Mrs.
Frank H. Baker also returm-d to Port
land Sunday night. They were at the

home after a visit with the James

A' simple wedding of Sunday was
that at which Miss Margaret Taylor,
of Portland, became the bride of Er
nest Oetzen, also of Portland. It was
solemnized at the Methodist Episcopal
Church,- Rev. J. O. Vince officiating.
Only a few close friends were bidden
to the ceremony and the young couple
left for a wedding trip of a few weeks.
The bride has been summering here
With her family and was Joined Sat
urday by her fiance. The wedding
was planned some time ago, but the
young couple desired a simple cere
mony and chose Seaside rather than
Portland.

the David Taylor Honeymans Saturday,

The new lS-hole golf course is con
sidered one of the finest in this sec
tion of the country and the gret-ns are
now In excellent condition. There were
one or two slight errors In planning
the new course that have recently been
corrected, and the enthusiasts of the
game are greatly Interested in the ap
proachlng tournament.
The committees will be selected from
ainerent golf clubs of the N'nrthwe.t
and entries already are pouring In to
the management. The prises will be
unusually handsome, and elaborate
preparations are being made for the
entertainment of the players and-their
i rienas.

are proving popular with the younger
set. previous to which there are swim
ming and diving exhibitions at the
nntatortum adjoining the hotel. Dur
ing the "hops" Miss Hortense Will-
lams, of Portland, gives exhibitions of
esthetic and folk dances, which sre
greatly appreciated by the spectators
and dancers.
Beginning tomorrow (Sunday) there
will be a series of musicals. In which
.Miss Leah Cohen, well-known ioni
bird, will be the soloist, and the or
chestra Includes Harry Parsons. An
drew Looney and Miss Oille Thomp
son. .
me concerts will be given in the
cararooms of the hotel, and all the
cottagers and their friends are In
vited.
The cake sale on Saturday proved
a huge success, every cake being sold
as rapidly as It could be packed 'or
the eager purchasers. The posters ad
vertising the sale were most artistic
and were coveted by all who saw them

The completion of the road from the
station to the beach was the signal
for a continuous stream of motor
cars and horse-drawn vehicles. The
opening up of this new road also as
sisted the holiday seekers to plan pic
nics and trips to the surrounding
country by motor, as for several days
it was practically impossible for trans
portation out of the beach section of
Gearhart except on foot. Now there
Is a broad, smooth stretch of pavement
all the way to the rolling surf, so that
motoring is growing in favor with the
Summer visitors.
Monday morning started In warm,
and. flooded with brilliant sunshine,
the breakers lured the biggest crowd
of bathers of the year. The surf this
year la remarkably warm and delight
ful, and there are few if any oppor
tunities lost to take advantage of the
change In temperature. Hou.-e parties
are growing apace, now that all the
new homes are finished and "settled"
for tho Summer, leaving the hosts and
hostesses time to entertain their
friends, and with the arrival of new
guests each week, social affnirs and
outdoor pleasures are the order of the
day.
Lieutenant F. V. Schneider, of Van
couver Barracks, remained after the
breaking up of Camp Jackson for a
few days' visit with the Huber family
In their cottage. He returned to town
Saturday night.
Mrs. Charles F. Adams sister-in-
law. Mrs. Charles Eichbaum. and two
daughters are passing several weeks-
