THE SUNDAY OREGONIAN, PORTLAND, APRIL 11, 1915. NEW TODAY. 5EW TODAY. MODERN WOODMEN WILL BE HOSTS APRIL -24 TO 27 Entertainment to Be Provided Group oi National Officers En Route Home From Congress at San Francisco Mass Meeting Planned. For three days, beginning Saturday, April 24. members of the Modern Wood men of America in Multnomah County will provide entertainment for a group of their National officers who will be In the city on the way home from the fraternal congress at San Francisco. In the party of visitors will be S. S. Tanner, of Minier. I1L, chairman of the head board of directors; F. O. Van Galder. of Rock Island, 111., editor of the official organ of the organization, The Modern Woodman," and Dr. J. A. Koutledge, of Colorado Springs. Colo., superintendent of the Modern Woodmen tuberculosis sanitarium. These officers will represent the Modern Woodmen of America at the "fraternal day" exercises at the World's Fair on April 22. They will come to Portland direct from the ex position. One of the principal features of en tertainment planned in their honor is a monster mass meeting of members of the organization in the old Baker Theater. Eleventh and Morrison streets, TO BE I 6 CO RE BOARD FIGURES TO IDEN TIFY COAST PLAYERS. Aameralff Correspond In g: With Those in Programmes W ill Tell Who Goes to Bat InEach Innln;. Two or three years ago the Pacific Coast League tried the innovation of attaching: pumbers to the players eleeves for identification purposes. The laudable scheme went awry because the numbers were too small and principally because the managers and players did not co-operate as they should have done. This year a new plan is to be Intro duced. W. W. Metzger. business manager, has painted out the space on the old scoreboard reserved for the Portland Northwest League club, and large num bers will be displayed there correspond ing with the printed programmes. The scoreboy has also been instructed to flash the number of the first man at bat in each inning. Fans thus can know the exact batting order at all times and the name of every player as he comes to bat. This is something on the order of the electric boards in use in the major league parks, and has been introduced in all Coast League parks. Under the old system the scorebooks were a sorry jumble most of the time, due to sudden shifts in the batting orders just before the game. P. S. McXally, Xoted Swimmer, Dead.
