Here Is an opportunity for one of the big dock concerns in the lower harbor to get good tli e protection. Mayor Albee an nouncod yesterday that the city wants a berth for the old fireboat "George H Williams." which will be put baok in service early next month. So far it has not been possible to get a place to put the boat. The Mayor says some of the big dock concerns should be willing to give the boat a berth for the fire protection such an arrangement would afford. If no other place can be secured, it is proposed to berth the boat alongside the Cruiser Boston. The three Justices of the Washing ton State Supreme Court whose terms expire with the present year, today filed simultaneously with the Secretary of State notices of their candidacy for reflection to six-year terms to succeed themselves. They are Chief Justice Herman D. Crow, Justice Stephen J. Chadwlck and Justice Mack F. Gose. Chief Justice Crow was appointed in January, 1905, from Spokane, where he had practiced law for 15 years. He was twice re-elected, once by Repub lican nomination for a term of two years, and the second time in 1908 for full term in non-partisan primaries. He served three terms in the State Sen ate from Spokane, and was a regent of Washington State College at the time of his appointment to the bench. Justice Chadwlck is a native of Ore gon and officially a resident of Colfax, Whitman County, where he practiced law fo- 15 years, and was eight years on the Superior bench. His father, S. F. Chadwlck, was Governor of uregon from 1876 to 1879. Justice Gose served two years on the Supreme bench by appointment and was re-elected in 1910 to the final four years of the full term. None of the three Justices will make an active campaign for re-election. LAND FRAUD IS ALLEGED "Western People Said to Have Bought Granted Area Nullified by Court. BOISE, Idaho, July 25. (Special. ) By exchanging bogus deeds to Ken tucky farms for Westorn lands, sharks are said to have been doin ga profit able business defrauding innocent per sons in the West, according to Robert M McCracken, an attorney of this city who has Just returned from Ken tucky where he made an investigation on behalf of Western purchasers, rest dents of Idaho. Some years ago the state of Virginia gave a warrant for a tract of 660,000 acres of land In the state of Kentucky to a man by the name of Walcott, This warrant was filed by Walcott about the year 1850 in Johnson County, Ky. Before Walcott obtained his deed, set tiers had already taken up their homes on the land and had been given title Walcott's title was nullified subse quently. 'Land sharks, said Attorney Mc Cracken, "In the large cities have been trading such of these invalid Walcott deeds as they could acquire to people in the West." MADAGASCAR JOB OFFERED Dr. J. Mc"l Hand Henderson, of Oregon Engaged by Oil Company. EUGENE, Or., July 25. (Special.) Dr. J. McCleland Henderson, geologist and African explorer, will leave in a few days for Madagascar to takeichargo of a geological expedition for an im portant African oil company. He plans to take his family with him and expects to be gone a year. Dr. Hen derson owns a farm on the McKenzle River, at Camp Creek, where he has been engaged In farming for several years. PORTLAND CHANCE GROWS Knights of Pythias Likely to Meet Here in 1916 Is Statement. ALBANY, Or.. July 25. (Special.) That Portland is almost certain to procure the session of the supreme lodge of the Knights of Pythias in 1916 is the statement of L. R. Stinson. of Salem, grand keeper of records and seal of the Grand Lodge of Oregon, who was hero today to confer with L. M. Curl, of this city, chairman of the committee named by the grand lodge of this state to Invite the su preme lodge to meet in Portland. The supreme lodge will meet at Win nipeg, Man., August 4 and during that session the meeting place of the next biennial session will be chosen. Portland's leading opponent for the honor appears to be Nashville, Tenn. Smith, 31 years old, a longshore man, was badly bruised about the body yesterday when a pile of lumber fell on mm. He was employed 'on the steamer Daisy Putnam at the Southern Pacific dock. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and after his wounds were dressed he was sent home. Courthouse Ventilation to Be Remedied. Bids were received yester day by the County Commissioners for making minor changes to the venti lating system of the Courthouse. The body of Louis Bauerfiend, 35, a farmer, who lived north of this city, was found yesterday. The dis covery was made by trainmen who stopped their train at the edge of Davenport for a close view of an ob ject they had passed dally for nearly two weeks and which they thought was a -hoax of neighborhood lads. A revolver and a box of cartridges were found beside the body. A note was found on the body, but rain had blurred all but the signature. The day before Bauerfiend bought the pistol he was arrested and fined for assault and battery. This Is believed to have led to his suicide. The Bandon cleared from the Toledo Lumber Company's dock yesterday for San Francisco carrying 600,000 feet of lumber. Joseph Fyfe, general man ager of the A. F. Estabrook Steamship company, lias been In Toledo for tne past few days arranging business; he has established an agency in Toledo to handle all freight. Mr. Fyfe says that before long he will put the Fyfield on the run. This boat has staterooms and accommodations for 40 passengers. The Bandon brought in fruit, vegeta bles and groceries. Mr. Moore of the Bandon Lumber Company has been in Toledo for the past week looking toward locating In Toledo and if he can secure the right location, and get the timber he will move his mill to Yaqulna Bay. PASCO, Wash., July 25. -(Special.) All political parties are preparing to enter the contest this Fall. The fil ings will close on August 8 and before that time it is thought every party will have filed practicaly a full ticket. This will be the first time the Social ists ever entered the county fight, but after winning in the last city election they feel confident of being able to carry the county. The prettily decorated auditorium o f the First German Baptist Church was the scene of a charming wedding Tuesday evening, when at 8:20 o'clock Miss Freda Boehi became the bride of Edward Neubauer. The bridal party entered to the strains of the bridal chorus from Lohengrin," played by Miss Pauline Weiss. Miss Martha Orth, cousin of the bridegroom, and Miss Bertha Koester were the bridesmaids. Messrs. Carl Boehl, brother of the bride, and Henry Bertu lelt acted as best men. The little Misses Gladys and Evelyn Neubauer, cous ins of the bridegroom, acted as the flower girls. The bride, attended by her sister as maid of honor, was met at the altar by the bridegroom, who was attended by his brother, Otto Neubauer. The bride was charming in her wedding gown of ivory charmeuse trimmed in shadow lace and pearls. Her full-length veil was fastened to her coiffure In cap effect and wreathed with orange blossoms. She carried a shower bou quet of bride's roses. Messrs. Albert Losll, Thomas Bronlee, Eugene Wetzler and John Johnson, Jr., served as ushers. Before the ceremony Miss Emma Bertulelt sang "Because."
