THE SUNDAY OREGONTAX, PORTLAND, MAT 31, 1914. AT THE THEATERS Continued From KlrHt Pec Binning today, the popular Fourth and fitark street house will produce only high-class dramatic tabloids, the first fv which will be "Mrs. Wigiss of the Cabbage Patch." It Is one ot the most beloved of American plays of simple folk, and one of the few plays -which never fails to reach the hearts of all classes. It is so natural, so de void of artificiality and - teaches such a. true philosophy of life that none can fall to understand and sympathize with every line. Mrs. Wigga, the very essence of the spirit of optimism, good cheer, helpful ness and loving kindness. Is the grand central figure of the play. To her come all the neighbors, who dwell In these homely surroundings, with their Joys and troubles, for they are sure to find sympathy and help. No matter how dark the outlook, she manages to find the path that leads to hope and shows It to them In a way they cannot fall to understand. Mrs. Wlggs Is an Ideal character, and, although she has loads of trouble of her own to contend with, she has schooled herself to look only on the bright side of everything. Mrs. Wiggs Is always on hand, whether at the cradle, the altar or the grave. JLovey Mary la a young girl who ap pears at Mrs. "Wiggs' home with a baby she has stolen from an orphan asylum. Mrs. Wiggs promptly takes her- in, de spite the fact that all the neighbors sniff suspiciously and begin to gossip. The final return of the truant Mr. TViggs and the part Lovey Mary plays In the reconciliation Is ample reward for this simple act of kindness. And so on through the entire play, it is Just one heartbeat after another. A story of sweetness and love that will live for ever. The. new bill will open for one week, beginning today. There will be a mat inee every day except Monday and two shows at night, the first at 7:30 and the second at 9 o'clock P. M. Through out, there is an undercurrent of love that lsrefreshing and that knocks on, the very door of the emotions. Mr. Breese plays the character of Itichard Allen. "The Master Mind." This character is a personage of extraordi nary environment that is irresistible in its charm and broad in its scope for dramatio opportunities, and there are few better dramatic actors than Ed mund Breese..
