N THfi SUNDAY OREGOXIAy, PORTLAND, - JANUART 11, 1914. the second half depicts the fortunes of Cosette and Marius. Neither part Is at all necessary to complete the story of the other. At the Peoples Theater the shows run one and a half hours, except In rare Instances. It Is Impossible to adhere to the established schedule In putting- on the entire 11.000 feet of "Les Miser ables" at one performance.- The man agement feels that Its patrons do not desire to sit three full hours lookftie; at a series of pictures. Therefore, tn view of the peculiar nature of this produc tion, it has been decided to run part one Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Jan uary 11, 12. 13, and to exhibit part two Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sat urday. January 14. 15. 16 and 17. This plan was adopted at the American Theater in Salt Lake City and was emi nently satisfactory. The plan has two advantages. The story of Jean Valjean and the candlesticks Is so well known that It Is unnecessary to tell the story. The entire production Is beyond all ques tion one of the masterpieces of motion plcturedom. Those who know Miss Irwin have every reason to believe the verity of this statement. Her life, both on and off the stage, has been spent in merry makins. There are no dull moments In Miss Irwin's life, nor have there ever been. From the time she first stepped upon the American stage some years ago Bhe's been a very busy little lady. And Miss Irwin has never been as sisted either by the excessive use of cosmetics or a ridiculous attire In cos tume. She appears on the' stage, ex cepting for a small amount of makeup on her face, in the same way she would appear in tho reception-room of her home. And yet this lady Is considered one of the Nation's greatest laugh pro ducers. . STAR HAS BIG FEATURE FTLM "The Hour and the Man" Strong . Story In Five Reels. The' New Star Theater will present today one of its programmes of Ave reels of selected material. The feature drama Is a two-part story, "The Hour and the Man."
