here during the Summer. The
Lieutenant will return January S. but
Mrs. Hartx and children will not return
before the last of January.

EVENTS OF THE WEEK.
The Women's Society of the White
Temple gava a Christmas programme
in the lecture-room of tha Temple on
Wednesday evening. The affair was in '
charge of the social committee, of
which Mrs. O. P.. M. Jamison Is chair
man. The other members of the com.
mlttee are Mrs. David Fouikes, Mrs.
Leabo and Mrs. W. H. Signer. The
programme Ineluded Oscar Wilde's
"I'rlnce of Peace." by Miss Ada Tuttle.
with piano'ogue: Mrs J. G. Frankel re
cited "The Otherwise Man." by Van
Dyek. and the piece de resistance of
the entertainment was the singing by
Rev. Frank Gorman. His numbers, were
"Comfort Ye My People" and "There
Is a Green Hill." from "The Messiah,"
Vandewater's "Night of Nights" and
"Open the Gates." from the "Resurrec
tion." accompanied by Miss Elsie Von
Blsrhoff at the piano.
The room was attractively decked
with holiday decorations, llttls Christ
mas trees, scarier poinsettias and Ore
con grape being effectively arranged In
' baskets and vases. .

A very -pretty affair was the after
noon party given by Miss Wllla Shep
ard to announce the engagement of her

for the afternoon, after which a colla
tion was served.
The weddlne; will be an event of the
latter part of February and the young
couple will continue to make their
home In Portland.

of the birthday of Charles Lindner by

The Oregonia Club of 1912 gave its
first party of the season on Sunday
evening at the home of William
Krause. in honor of the outgoing of
ficers. Those present were entertained
by a reading given by one ot tne mem
bers and by a raock trial. A collation
was served by the committee in charge
and toasts were proposed by several of
the members.
This was the first affair given by the
club. Tha marked success tt the party
is expected to lead to others.

Carnine celebrated their golden wedding at their home In this city re
cently They were married at St. Louis. Mo.. December 1, 18S3. Mr.
Carnine Is a veteran of the Civil War. having enlisted onder the first
call In April. 1M1. in the Seventeenth Illinois Infantry. Mr. and
Mrsl Carnine and their three oloest children crossed the plains in
an emigrant train in the Summer of 1S75. lived one year at Vancouver
and then moved to a farm at Silver Lake, where they .ived until tne
HDrfng of 10.' m-hen thev retired from farming and established their
home in Castle Rock, where the reunion was held. Their seven chil
dren are all grown and married, and all are residents of Western
Washington. There are IS grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

wife and Edgar C. and wife, of Tenlno; .the three daughters, with
