14 TIIE SUNDAY OREGOXIAX, PORTLA3TD, OCTOBER 5. 1913. Oregon Gefe -Right m Stated Work of Pe rmameiiiti K oacts "That's an excellent stretch of road!" Just such remarks as' that are heard every day about the Linnton Road and the Terwilliger Boulevard. Both are paved with WARRENITE, which, by the test of time and hard use, is proving to be the ideal hard surf ace for boule vards, suburban pavements and country roads. . WARRENITE is the only satisfactory hard surface which can be laid over old macadam, as was done in the case of the Linnton Road.. Instead of .excavating and throwing" away the old maca dam road bed, which originally cost a considerable sum of money, this was utilized for the base and redressed with two inches of WARRENITE surface at a comparatively low cost. This method has proven fully as good as where the old. base is removed and a new one substituted. - WARRENITE surface for country roads is composed of the varying sizes of the best stone obtainable and bituminous ce ment, having all the durability and stability required of a suc cessful country road surface. ' . WARRENITE, in modified form, is constructed under the same general principles, supervision and care as the Bitulithic street pavement, the growth of which has been unprecedented in the paving world. WARRENITE is especially adapted for the surfacing of country highways subjected to the ravages of au tomobile traffic. , I'llf -x , 3, i 1 fell- " , x 1 If' . - x - : '- 5 - I - ' - "x" "x'tx, xv-si-xx x-. t7r xx ' xx . - x x T?ivhJ4&' " . , Tt-iV; ,x:x'- - v .s-$'tMt: " , - . - ' - n.' , - - x - x;xxx rp H'xxtxT;f- I-'---'X - -xx- '?'x x' - '-XX ' " Vl-C"V' .itE'Vf.7 yfXij?: 4xxX,xA-.' f x - ,!. Paved With WARRENITE 7 This is the style of construction on the Linnton Road shown in the upper photograph. The road was built in 1912 under the supervision of the Multnomah County officials, and . is the first hard-surface road of its kind in the State of Oregon. The lower photograph shows the WARRENITE construction on the Ter williger Boulevard, which has just been completed. Oregon is to be congratulated on getting a flying start to ward first-class country thoroughfares. WARRENITE is reason able in first cost, sanitary and dustless, affords a good foothold for horses, and automobiles do not skid on it. WARRENITE roadways have been contracted for to March 31, 1913, to the extent of 2,299,326 square yards. From that time to present date an additional 1,000,000 square yards have been laid throughout the country. WARRENITE today is not an experiment, but an Ideal Coun try Road, the result of eleven years of practical experience in scientific research. . It has been adopted in varying climatic con ditions, withstanding hot and extreme cold weather without creeping or cracking. ' By the use of WARRENITE Oregon's country highways may be made so permanent and durable in character that the high quality of the work will be remembered long after the price is forgotten. Such roads will be built not merely for present show, but to stand the test of time. Your inquiries concerning WARRENITE or BITULITHIC paving are earnestly invited. It places you under no obligation whatever, x - . arreini rottner Journal Building c 0ffip.8L.Oy Portland, Oregon . A
