"Aside from the' regular " programme, ' Medford offered the visitors an auto excursion through the Valley, a' baseball . game, racing and, bucking contests". aud a ball at. the Natatorlum Wednt day. night. , -According to he offlcers.of. the lodge this was the first time in 10 years that the entire organization of four depart ments was able to meet ait one .'time under a single-roof.-, The Natatorlum' is not the la,rsest-bullding in the state, but it lias'a number of ceparate apart ments well adapted to, the secret ses sions of such a body. All the visitors were enthu-iaBtlo over Medford- and the Rogue River Valley-and many declared their deter mination to stay as long as their tick ets allowed after the convention closed. In-voting the bonds the ' taxpayers authorized, four specific improvements to the system. Installation of three reservoirs; installation of several miles of 10 and 12-inch main; construction of a fireproof building over the pump ing plant; location , of a better; intake. For- the reservoir and main exten sions, surveys have been made and prei llminary plans completed. The reservoir work probably will be let -by contract, but it is quite likely the water board will, install the pipes with its -own force c-f ' workmen. - Plans '. are now. nearly completed for the pumping plant, building and this probably, will be let by contract. ' Little has been done in, regard to the new intake : as yet. ' As rsoon as the money from the sale of the bonds Is available, tests will be made of a well sunk several years ago. by a private company owning the water system at th" time and abandoned later when the intake pipe was washed out. These tests will include the placing of a large pump at the well to learn if .the flow into the well will be sufficient for the needs of the water, department. The well is . located across the,, river from the pumping plant, and water taken -Irom ; it would,', bo filtered., by gravel lying along the river and un derlying; all the -Valley - land and in addition the water' would., as now, be passed . through the-,.mechanlcal filters. (Special. ) That - the floral .decorations .and land scape .work will be the most elaborate at the state fair this year ever attempt ed in Oregon is the declaration ofHugh Bryan, state landscape artist. Three Portland- firms each wHl -exhibit 300 new varieties of dahlias, many of which have i never been seen" in this-part of the state. . Mr. Bryan -has planned a bed - to contain 1000 begonias. 600 of the tuberous variety and 400 Ver,non?. - Mass planting- or begonias on such' a scale as is contemplated, ;except in in ternational exhibits, has. never been atr tempted. In this country, and the bed willbe one of the greatest attractions at the' fair.. CENTRALIA,' Wash.. May 24. (Spe cial.) The Lewis County Commission ers have called for bids for the con struction of two new- bridges -on the county road to Bunker Creek, located just northwest of Adna. The bridges will' be 40 feet and 50 feet long, re spectfvely. Bids for the erection of the 220-foot span steel bridge over the Chehalls- River at; Riverside will be opened by the-Commissioners tomorrow.
