The Eoyal Rosarians of Portland will make two junketing trips during the month. The first excursion will be next Thursday, when a trip' will be made to Salem. The Rosarians have been invited jointly by the State Fair Association, the Salem Board of Trade and the Mayor of Salem to attend the festivities at the fair. As Thursday will be Portland day. it is expected that many other citizens also will visit the fair. -Arrangements for the Salem trip will be perfected by a com mittee composed of Frank E. Smith, Dr. E. A. Pierce, O. C. Bortzmeyer, J. L. Miller and M. Mosessohn. An invasion of the Inland Empire also has been decided upon by the Rosarians. Mayor Rushlight last night an nounced that he would veto the action Df the Council in voting to place on the ballot for the special election No vember 2, a measure revoking the franchise of the Southern Pacific Com pany on East First street. The Mayor said he did not care to announce his reasons for this action until he has ormulated them in a veto message. The Mayor earlier in the day had ap proved the Council's action in voting to place a large number of amendments on the special election ballot, holding back only the ordinance affecting the East First street franchise. The revo cation of this franchise is sought by certain East Side business men who have complained that possession of the franchise by the Harriman interests bottles up a large district. It is prob able a fight will be made to put the amendment revoking the franchise on the ballot by passing the measure over the Mayor's veto. Mrs. A. Delovage Is Dead. Word was received here late last night of the death of Mrs. A. Delovage, at Monrovia, Cal., whither she had gone in the hopes of recuperating. Mrs. A. Delovage was the wife of one of- the partners In the firm of A. and M. De lovage, Jewelers of 324 Washington street. Her hame was at 744 Hoyt street, but, having been, in failing health for some time, she had gone to Monrovia, Cal.. in the hope that a change in climate would result in a corresponding change in her health, hopes which, unfortunately, were not realized. Mrs. Delovage, who was but 26 years old, leaves a daughter 2 years old. R. W. Baxter Makes Visit. R W. Baxter, president of the Alaska Steamship Company, arrived in Fortland yesterday, with Mrs. Baxter, for a visit with their daughter, Mrs. F. a Down ing. They are staying at the Portland Baxter succeeded J. H. Young, president of the North Bank road, in his Present position, and formerly was with the Harriman lines in this city. His present duties require htm to live in Seattle, which enables him to make frequent visits to his old home In Portland. Head ot Burns Agency Leaves. E. E.
