Hooley waa one of tha leading finan
ciers In England from 1 0 to 18.
when ha waa declared bankrupt. He bad
been regarded aa one of tha wealthiest
men of tba country, acquiring hla riches
by the promotion of numerous compa
nies, la ll Hooley launched a tlra
company, and Is supposed to have made
a profit of Ill.StfS.OuO. Ha owned many
rare horses and yachts. Including tha
racing cutter Britannia, formerly tha
property of King Edward and pos
sessed also several historic country
seats.
After hla bankruptcy ha was known
as the "splendid bankrupt. aa ha con
tinued to live la princely style oa
money which ha had placed In hi
