Ralston Babcock. who died at her
horn In Seaside Thursday, were neia
at the Portland Crematorium yester
day. The ashes will b' Hamil
ton. Ont.. the family home, to be placed

Ralston. Mrs. Babcock was T years
of age. She was born In Anraster
County. Province of -Ontario. She Is
survived by three sons: J. S. Rslston,

of Seaside, and A. J. Ralston. Toronto,
Canada. Her daughter died In Port
land last year. Mrs. Babcock had lived
In Portland for 15 years and at Seaside
for eight years. Services over her re
mains were held In Sesslde Friday,
Rev. O. O. Oliver officiating.
Poutca to Protect Mrs. MoGee. Mrs.
McGee. a little old woman who stands
at prominent corners with a Bible in
her hand and shouts to no particular
audience Is In trouble, and the police
have been directed to see to her pro
tection. Recently, charitable persons
provided a home for the street
preacher, near First and Grover streets,
but her refuge soon attracted the at
tention of children of the neighborhood,
who have exasperated her beyond en
durance, making capital of her pecu
liarities. Ths fsct was reported to
Chief Slover yesterday and he In
structed patrolmen In the district to
sea that she Is not molested further.

Arabia Chief's Robe Is Relic.
A camelshair sleeping-robe feund on a
murdered Arabian chief near Tripoli
was added to the list of relics In tha
City Museum yesterday. The robe was
presented by City Dairy Inspector
Sllverwood. who. received It from his
brother, who discovered the Arabs
body. The robs Is considered valuable.
Horse Steps ok Toe. 1100 Sought.
Because a horse owned by the city
stepped on his big toe A. B. Frost, a
teamster employed by the city, filed a
claim for $100 with the. City Auditor
yesterday. Frost says he attempted
to separate city horses which were
fighting and In doing so was stepped
on. He was laid up for SO days.

Lents Gets Electric Lights.
Through the efforts of the Lents Ir
provement Association that suburb
has now five arc lights In the busi
ness sections on Main street and the
Foster road. The lights were Installed
last week. The residence sections also
sre asking for lights and at the meet
ing of the club Monday night the sub
ject of Installing more lights will be
taken up. The cost of illumination Is
met by' subscriptions by business men
and residents. I.ents is the only
suburb of Portland which has under
taken to provide Its own electric lights
In advance of annexation.

CANADIAN TOUR PLANNED

Excursion From Dominion.

W. Brodlc. of Vancouver, passenger
traffic manager and general passenger
agent respectively, of the Canadian Pa
cific Railway, were In Portland yes
terday to arrange for the second annual
excursion from Western Canada to Ore
gon and California, passengers for
which were enlisted by John XI. Scott,
general passenger agent of the South
ern Pacific, on his recent trip to Can
ada. The Canadians will arrive here on
Saturday. January 6, and will spend the
greater part of the day and night In
thla city. Arrangements will be made
by local Canadians and Britons to wel
come them and to provide for their
entertainment. It Is probable that a
banquet will be given In their honor
at the Commercial Club.
The Canadian Pacific officials report
that nearly all the members of the
party are persons who never have been
In Oregon and that they are Interested
In this state. Xelther of yesterday's
visitors had been In Portland for more
than a year, and both were highly Im
pressed with the growth and develop
ment of the city.
While In the city they arrangnd de
tails for handling a number of special
trains over their line for the Elks' con
vention next July. Two lodges already
have arrsnged to travel over the Ca
nadian pacific In coming to Portland.
They are Philadelphia and Rochester.
N. Y. Each will have a special train.

a price of $1.35 per foot delivered along
the bank of the dlth In which the pipe
Is to be laid. This pipe is the drain for
the water from about 1400 acres includ
ed in the Umatilla Drainage District
and also will be the trunk line of the
city sewer when the- latter Is con
structed. Work on the construction of
the open ditches of the drainage sys
tme outside the city limits will be com
menced December 4.
