Orterlc, Suveric and Kumenc between Portland. Seattle and the Far East, are negotiating for the purchase of the Portland & Asiatic Steamship Company's interests, are denied by An drew M. Ve cannot buy vessels that tne re puted owners don't own and are operat ing; merely on time charters, and there's no truth whatever in the story," Mr. Gillespie is said to have declared at Seattle. The Portland & Asiatic Steamship Com pany is a subsidiary corporation to the Harriman lines, operating four vessels under time charters which are about to expire, the Rygja, Hercules, Strathlyon and Henrlk Ibsen. The Strathlyon is owned by Burrlll & Co., of Glasgow, the others by Norwegian interests, and the Portland company is said not to own any vessels and has no interest in the four, excepting that of tentative char terers. Mr. Waterhouse Is In Montana. That negotiations are on for tho pur chase of the Portland & Asiatic Steam ship Company by Frank Waterhouse & Company was admitted today by officials of the Pacific Mail Company in San Francisco, who represent the Portland line.
