brick buildings on Fifth and
Washington and Alder streets.
Within a year, unless Providence
intervenes, there will arise on the
same site one of America's most
magnificent institutions. The new
Lipman. Wolfe & Company es
tablishment will be another testi
monial to the progress of Portland
and Oregon. It will be a new
force in retailing. The very
fact that it will be the largest
by doable of any store on the
Pacific Coast selling the same
merchandise is a factor of the
greatest importance to shoppers.
Such a condition on such a
scale has not come hereto
fore. The store will perpetuate
the splendid patronage accorded it
these many years.
Carefulness, reliability, candor
and courtesy are the four posts of
the business.
The greatest buying and selling
forces ever brought together in the
West are now being organized.
During the past year we have
visited the largest retail establish
ments in America in search of the
most modern store equipment and
system suitable for our new quar
ters. We have also been on a quiet
search for managers, and have
drawn from such houses as John
Wanamaker. R. H. White, of
Boston; Jordan-Marsh, of Bos
ton; Mandel Bros., of Chicago;
Carson. Perie. Scott & Co., Mar
shall Field & Co., and other
houses of National repute. Much
more of interest as the building
rises.
