1. "My goodness!' cried the Widow Wise, I have an invitation
From Lord and Lady Verihigh to seethe Coronation !
My, what a splendid chance it is So to Dieppe she hastened
And soon arrived in London by the Channel slightly chastened
2. Both Lord and Lady Verihigh were charmed to see her there. v
She met the nicest folk in town and loved their cordial air ,
She liked their earnest interest in things across the sea.
"And yet you hear of English snobs! They're not at all, thought she.
3. Of course the Widow ffad to shop, and twas in Regent street
A girlhood friend she'd known at home one day she chanced to meet.
, "Oh, Kitty Brown !' she cried in joy. So glad to "see you here !

4 Amazed, the Widow turned away, when Susie Hobbs she saw..
She spoke and Susie made reply, "I never saw you aw !
And several other Yankee girls the Widow met that day
Whose wealth had brought them titles in the modern, sordid way.
5. They snubbed her most completely and she fumed in rage intense-
She said to Lady Verihigh, Id like to teach them sense !
"I'll give a dinner,' said her friend, "and ask these people all ;
And leave the rest to you, my dear, to make them all feel small.
6. The snobbish crowd all came, of course, much flattered to.be. asked ;
In circles like the Verihighs they very seldom basked.
They talked serenely of "Our King," but gasped in blank surprise
When Lady Verihigh announced, "My guest, the Widow Wise P

'Youre looking just the ame as when you lived in Kankakee !
And Strsic Hobbs ! You haven't changed a single bit, my dear.
Since your father kept that shoe shop and you acted as cashier l"
8. Her hostess heard her flay them all and surely. was amused,
Although the dinner seemed to be a little bit confused.
"You did it well, she said that night, with laughter in her eyes. .
"WELL, SNOBS ARE SOMETHING I DESPISE!" exclaimed the.Widow Wist
