just returned from the East
and in an interview sajs:
"Manufacturers everywhere
fairly bepged me to buy, buy,
buy, and that, too, at prices ful
ly J5 per cent less than in for
mer years for the tame clasa
of good. Everything but the
cost of living is down. I bought
very heavily the surplus stock
of several factories. Five big
hotels and apartments we have
under way and others in pros
pect call for an enormous out
lay for furnishings of every
class and character. This,
aside from the regular demands
of our two large retail stores.
Goods are already going in the
"Clark," at Twelfth and Stark
streets, and tomorrow morn
ing we shall begin laying car
pets in the "Simon," at Nine
teenth and Marshall, and the
"Juliana," at Trinity Tlace
and "Washington, and very soon
the installation of furniture
will begin at the "Kamona," at
Twentieth and "Washington.
The "Lowengardt," at Four
teenth and "Washington will
not be ready until late in the
season. "We also have several
other very large hotel and
arartment-house propositions
under consideration. You see it
is not without reason that we
assert that we are bringing to
Portland this year the largest
shipment of furniture ever
brought to the Coast by a
single dealer."
