Silver Tongs la .Sugar Bowl.
H5W one woman dared to resent an
offense in a dramatic, effective,
but masterful way, is told in whisnered
tone In polite circles In Portland so
ciety. The event took place at the
home of one of the so-called social
leaders, who was entertaining a num
ber of women In the afternoon in Fort
land Heights.
One woman, who happened to be sit
ting at a small table near the fire
place, disregarded the silver tongs in
the sugar bowl and with perfect con
fidence that everything was all right,
picked out with her finger a square
of sugar and dropped It Into her tea.
The hostess, who was standing near,
noticed the act. and in a manner that
showed utter lack of tact, said to the
maid: "Take that bowl of sugar out.
empty it and refill for the other
guests."
The woman, who overheard the re
mark, at once arose, took the teacup
and saucer and flung them into the fire.
Turning to her hostess, she calmly
said:
"I will replace that cup and saucer
tomorrow. I must be going now."
and. getting her wrap, she bade the
other guests "good afternoon" and de
parted for her home.

How to Destroy the
Dandruff Germ
By a Specialist.
That the dandruff germ is responsi
ble for nearly all the diseases to wuleh
the scalp is heir, as well as for bald
ness and premature gray hair. Is a
well-known fact, but when we realize
that it also indirectly responsible for
many of the worst cases of catarrh
and consumption, we appreciate the im,
fiortance of any ascent that will destroy
ts power. We are. therefore, particu
larly pleased to give herewith the pre
scription which an eminent scientist
and specialist states he has found, after
repeated tests, to completely destroy the
dandruff germ in from one to three
applications. This prescription can be
made up at. home, or any druggist will

which unite perfectly with the other
