l. John Weed had been a widower for two-long, lonesome years,
But bit by bit he chippered up and wiped away his tears.
He sought a wife to share his wealth, which was of goodly size.
And Cupid led his footsteps to the shrine of Widow Wise.
2. They met, and soon 'twas evident to all her friends around
That she at last a kindred soul by fortune great had found.
And when Weed gave a dinner at his country house for her -The
guests said:"Theif engagement soon the swagger set will stir!"

3. The dinner o'er, the guests deployed about the handsome place.
And an eager, anxious look they saw upon Weed's ruddy face.
The Widow guessed and slipped away to thecoriservatory.
"'Twill be a perfect spot," she thought, to hear1 Love's old, old storjOr
4. Among theyfl6ershwaited1md the anxious time beguiled
When suddenly there toddled in a fair haired, pretty child . J
"Comehere, my dear," the Widow said, "and say who may you be:'
' "I'setfohnny Weed', the tot replied. "Oho! Aha!" thought she

5. "He never said he had a child! "Twould frighten me, he thought!
- Ill let him find us making friends and set his fears at naught!"
So in her lap she took the tot and stroked his golden hair,
And thus John Weed discovered them when he came strolling there.
6. "Why, Mr. Weed." the Widow said, "you never said, you know.
You had a little boy like this and J love children sol"
"You do!" cried Weed. "Then wait a bit!" and hurried from the roonu
He counted on a triumph, but alas! he wooed his doom!
7. A moment later he returned. "Ah, Widow fair," he cried.
The fact that you love children makes me ask. Come, be my bride!
Be mine! And to your care I give not only this one here.
But these!" and then he turned and called, "Come in, my children dear!
8. The door sprang wide. Ten cheering tots came trooping in a row!
"Behold your new mamma!" cried Weed. The Widow said, "Not so.
I could adore say one jor two, but" here she dropped her eyes,
"YOU NEED A NURSE GIRL, NDT A WIFE!" exclaimed the Widow Wise.
