COMPROMISE IS FAILURE
Sensations Are Expected In -Woman's
Bait Against Carnso.
MILAN. Italy. ' Aug. 20. All efforts
hav failed to arrange privately the dif
ficulties between Enrico Caruso and
Mna. Glaohetti, who was known for
some years as Hue. Caruso.
- Mme. Glachettl finally .has entered suit
aralnst th tenor and another suit
against Big. Carlotta Carlgnanl, who
keeps a boarding house for operatic
artists here The Pension Excelsior
and who is an intimate friend of
Caruso.
Mme. Glachettl accuses Signora Car
lgnanl of tampering with and withhold
ing her private correspondence. Mme.
Glachettl. who is soprano, charges
that she lost a contract at $3,000 a
month with Oscar Hammersteln of th
Manhattan Opera House, New York,
which was mailed to her m care of Sig
nora Carignani. She avers that her
agent and representative, Gaetano Lo
rla, secured the contract and mailed it
to her.
The date for hearing the suit ns not
been fixed. Extraordinary revelations
are anticipated should th suit come to
trial. Th general opinion is that Caruso
would have dona wisely if he had set
tled the matter out of court. It is said
that th tenor has reduced to almost
nothing the allowance of $1000 a month
tag care of the youngest child by her
union with Caruso. He is providing for
he made to Mme. Glachettl. She is tak
tlre two other children.
