land Library nue an attractive exhibit
of its work through city andacounty at
the Seattle Fair for which it was pre
sented with a gold medal. This exhibit
has now been returned to the library
end mav be found in the county depart
ment. It will be especially interesting to
teachers. The children's department will
have its usual collection of books for
"hristmss on exhibition on and after Fri
riav. November 26. Those considering
frooks for Christmas presents for chil
dren will be interested to see the sug
gestions .that the library can offer. The
circulating department will be glad to

New York Sot-iETT Celebration. The
'ew York State Society of Oregon will
hold the annual celebration of Evacuation
day on the evening of Friday, November
I. at the rooms of the Commercial Club.
Rev. Benjamin Young. D. IX. will deliver
an address on "Evacuation" and an ex
tensive musical programme will be given,
after which refreshments will be served.
All New York state people in or near
the city are urged to attend and help
celebrate the great event. Visiting New

Bia Potatoes Comb From Silver-ton
An exhibit of potatoes came to the Cham
ber of Commerce yesterday from Silver
ton. .They are of 6uch enormous size that
figures as to the production per acre are
refused bv the officers In charge of the
exhibit, but when it is understood that
an average single potato of the exhibit
weights two pounds, nine ounces, specu
lation as to the total product runs into
enormous - figures. The smallest potato

W. H. Sprinqer To Be Buried. The
funeral of William H. Springer, the Port
land 'pioneer of 1S52, will be held at 2
o'clock this afternoon, in the chapel of
Finlev's undertaking parlors. Rev. J. H.
Simpson, of St. Marks' Church, perform
ing the service. The body was brought
from Seattle Friday and is to be Interred
In Lone Fir Cemetery. All the members
of the family have' reached the city to
attend the funeral, which will also be
marked by the presence of a gathering
of pioneers

Grace Methodist Congregation Will
Celebrate Anniversary.
Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, of
this city, is preparing to celebrate the
25th anniversary of Its organization. The
opening , service will be ' held Thursday
evening, December 2, and other meetings
of a social and religious nature -will be
held during the following days up to and
including Sunday, December 5.
A committee has been busy for some
time on the arrangements and the pro
gramme for the four days" celebration
is about perfected.
All old members- of the church and
Sunday school, wherever they may be
and with whatever organization they
may now be affiliated, are expected to
be present to renew old friendships.
Grace Church was organized toy the
Rev. G. W. Izer. who was at that time
pastor of the Taylor-Street Methodist
Church. One hundred members of that
church signifying their willingness to
undertake the organization of a new
church. Grace Church was formed. Of
these 100 charter members about 50 are
living and an effort is being made to get
them all together, if possible, at one of
the services. "
Rev. E. W'.'Caswell was the first pastor
of the church, coming to take charge of
his work during the Fall of 1SS4. Suc
ceeding Rev. Mr. Caswell, the following
pastors have served Grace Church-: Rev.
Ross C. Houghton, Rev. G. W. Gue. Rev.
Henry I Rasmus, Rev. Hugh D, Atchin
son. Rev. J. R. T. Lathrop, Rev. Clarence
True Wilson, Rev. W. H. Heppe. The
