This -steel is known as Blue Planished Steel. It is made with a highly polished surface, which it always retains, and requires no blacking. This sort of steel is only found in ranges of the best quality, because its high cost precludes its use in ranges of inferior grade. They are made deep andwide, so they will hold fire over night, and are lined with the heaviest and best cast linings possible to make. As a further protection to the linings and body of the stove surrounding them they are made with non-radiating air spaces back of them. Oval end sections are furnished to eliminate dead corners, and all linings are made in sections so they can be easily removed or replaced The Easily Removed Grate. It consists of two - duplex bars, which, when turned, out the ashes and -clinkers from the fire without dropping unburned coal into the ash pit. The grate is made without tracks or frames to warp and crack, and the hangers are placed where they do not come into contact with the fire, thus insuring a grate which can be easily removed at all times, without disturbing thajra .box "'bag'.' This grate Is adaptable to burning coal or wood. By in verting the bars a perfect wood-burning fire-bottom is provided. Realizing this, the designers of Jewel Steel Ranges have given the construction of the ovens special attention. They are made square, and full size, with a protecting cast-iron plate over the top, and a patented non-buckling oven bottom. The heat is circulated by. the direct sheet flue plan of construction, which ' causes the heat from the fire box to travel evenly over the top, end and bottom, before escaping into the chimney fins. To this scientific plan of heat distribution is attributed the exceptional baking qualities of Jewel Ranges. The doors are mounted with extra heavy hang ers, practically eliminating all danger of breakage. The inside surface of the door is perfectly smooth, and heavy asbestos lin ings prevent the escape of heat while baking. A reliable oven thermometer is furnished with all Jewel Ranges of -the most ex pensive patterns. ' . Pouch Feed Door and Poker Door. SUSPl with a pouch feed door of large size, which allows feeding fuel into the fire box without removing the covers. It may also be utilized for broiling or toasting. Also a grata door which, when dropped, exposes the' entire front section of the grate for pok ing or cleaning the fire. In many ranges these features are lacking. ' Particular attention is also directed to the construction of Jewel Ranges surrounding the fire box. Here the heat is strong est, and the range should be specially protected if it is expected to last and give good service. Instead of the steel extending to the top of the range at this point, a heavy cast-iron casting is substituted, thus materially adding to the life of the range.
