July S. promises to be a decided success. !iss Case pos sesses a rich contralto voice which shows the splendid training she had under Frank King Clark In Paris. She is an Indefatigable worker and has the pluck to go out into the musical world and work her way. Three vears ago in San Francisco Mme. Gadskl heard Miss Case sing and told her she had one of the most beautiful natural contralto voices she had ever heard. She assured the young singer the musical profession was the most difficult to succeed in and it meant manv trials and heartaches, but since she has learned of Miss Cases advancement, the great soprano wrote her encouraging her and told her she hoped vet to sing In opera with her. This, of course. Is the dream of Miss Case-s life. Miss Case has been fortunate In be ing asoclated with Harol.l Bauer, whom the world considers a great artist. It was during her tour with Mr. Bauer that Fritz Krlcsler heard her sing and engaged her to ac company him on his next tour of the British Isles. The bookings for this tour are being completed- now and it will follow directly after his season In the I'nited States. This offer has been a great Inspira tion to Miss Case, who considers it also a reward for her hard work. Miss Case has an offer to go into the cast of the grand opera in Paris when she returns this Fall, but has not consid ered it at all. as she intends coach ing for opera with some one of the great masters. From oregAn City to Paris is a long distance in the musical world, when one must travel on merit alone, and this Miss Case has had to do. She has worked her way and is an examrle of what pluck and hard work will ac complish. Her programme will In clude Schubert. Strauss. Brahms. Meverbeer's splendid big aria for con-tre-itos. "Ah. It is believed now that his earnest work is going to bear fruit, as the people are worked up to such a pitch that strong societies, having for their aims the tak ing up of the propaganda for good roads, are rapidly organizing in every section. Such an influence is bound to bear re sults In the near future. New Club Is Freak. A freak In the way of a society club made its appearance at the St. Francis Hotel a few days ago. when a number of San Francisco's most prominent young society leaders banded themselves togeth er in an organization called the San Francisco No Hat Club. 3uch well known names as Tobin. McAllister. Dte told. Ereuner. Bellew, etc.. appeared on the roster of the club. When the name of the new organiza tion was noised about, it was feared that an invasion upon the rights of the fair sex to adorn her person with the late sizeable creations of the milliner, was about to be made, but it turned out later that the real object of the club Is to pro mote the growth and health of capil lary adornment. The Essex Automobile Club is organizing a fleet of 50 motor-cars, for an experi ment to test the capacity of a swift car In a new use during war time. First at Chelmsford, then from Warley Barracks and more recently In the dash to Hastings, the value of motor-cars, light and heavy. for the rapid trans portation of troops. as an alter native to the railway, has been amply proved. What the Essex Auto mobile Club now intends doing is to demonstrate the posibillty of employing a motor-car for blockade running. The test is to be- made on Saturday next. It will be assumed that Chelms ford has been surrounded by the enemy, and that there is urgent need to get dispatches through to the beleaguered town. The motor-cars will as??mble at Brentwood and ach driver will choose his own route. Riding with the driver of every car will be a Territorial officer, and each car will carry a distinguishing flag.
